Identification of the characteristics of every single one of the fields of religious studies and their relation with reason is an undeniable necessity, just like the necessity of the bases of reasoning in religion’s statements and teachings. In this research I have selected religious beliefs among the different fields of religious studies; then I have introduced its main parameters and explained the relation between reason and religious beliefs according to Quran and narrations. This will clarify the position of reason, its restrictions and applications in this field. Investigation of Quran’s verses and the verbal and actual tradition of the infallibles show that religious beliefs are: “a systematic collection of definite and realistic beliefs – with respect to religion’s Divine informative statements –which are believed in and form a ‘religious insight’. This collection is like an ‘epistemological field’ and has the role of the ‘central nucleus’ or epistemological system religion. In addition the content of Quran’s verses and narrations show that using reason in the field of religious beliefs is not only possible rather it is necessary and competent and has authority and validity for God. This competence, of course, has different levels with respect to the kind of doctrinal statement and has some restrictions for meta-rational facts. The main functions of reason in the field of religious beliefs are: ordaining the necessity of thinking in the field of beliefs, discovering the true beliefs and reasoning them, confirming, stabilizing and developing the correct beliefs, being loyal to the beliefs in practice, publication of the true beliefs and defending them against incorrect thoughts.

Considering the foundational differences of Islamic schools in their beliefs, they have different bases in Quran’s interpretation as well. These bases deeply effect their interpretation such that understanding their interpretive method without paying attention to these bases is almost impossible. In this article I have tried to investigate the differences of Shi’ites and Mu’tazilites interpretive bases which have the most effect on the process of Quran’s interpretation. Unlike Zahabi’s theory which says there is no difference between Shi’ites and Mu’tazilites, my claim is that the popular thought of Shi’ites is based on narrations along with reason and the Mu’tazilites mostly rely on a reason which is dominant on narration. I have mentioned some examples to prove the differences between Shi’ites and Mu’tazilites.

Understanding Quran is based on a couple of important principles or presuppositions; 1- Quran is understandable and knowledgeable; 2- it is analogically graded and has different levels of understanding; 3- it has a special method, is systematic and is based on a series of foundations, bases, principles, rules and methods…. In this article I have mentioned these bases; i.e. ontological bases, epistemological bases, philological and teleological bases. The mystical interpretation of Quran requires some scientific and practical introductions, intellectual and mental conditions, a synchronous method with other revelational facts, and a perfect and strong reason as well. This may be achieved through a process and after special steps which is also mentioned in this article.

Understanding religion’s method of posing different subjects is one of the important and key subjects in religious studies. This type of study is the only way which helps researchers to understand the purpose of religious propositions. Maybe the method of Quran in posing theism is one of the most important religious subjects. This article tries to investigate Quran’s special method of presenting theism. The main approach of this article is discovering this method, taking into consideration the chronological order of the descent of Quran’s chapters. It seems that Quran concentrates on theism and worship, and explains God; it discusses theistic subject with an educational approach. Although the Unity of the Divine Acts is widely discussed in Quran, but it mostly tries to deepen worship of God. The discussion of God’s essence and His attributes is posed in the related verses or in the form of Quranic stories and mysteries.

Mulla Sadra has many references to Quran’s verses and narrations in his interpretation and description of ‘Osool Kafi’; and refers to each one in a different way. He refers to the religious texts which are appropriate means of inferring rational knowledge in three different ways. This article claims that while Mulla Sadra searches for the relation between religious texts and rational knowledge, he uses a kind of half-hidden method in getting use of religious texts (Quran’s verses and the narrations). Investigation and discovery of this method helps us to understand the method of his rational inferences from these texts much better. It should be mentioned that this hypothesis is not a mere claim rather I have presented some indications and clues in each step, as much as possible in this writing. In some cases, religious texts have a special role in the inference and deduction of rational knowledge. The above mentioned triad method proves the claim and hypothesis of this theory.

One of the main parameters involved in proving the prophecy of a Prophet or Imamate of an Imam is being the most aware and having the Divine knowledge; therefore proving the knowledge of the esoteric interpretation for Ahl al-Bait (PBUT) through Quran’s verses has an important effect on their religious authority, especially for the Sunnis. This is because most of the Sunni scholars do not believe the authority of Ahl al-Bait even though most Sunni scholars and politicians agree on the excellence of Ahl al-Bait’s religious knowledge; and on this base, some Sunni scholars believe that Prophet’s narrations about the excellence of Ahl al-Bait’s religious knowledge and especially Imam Ali (PBUT), is mentioning to their religious authority not political authority. Yet the Shi’ite scholars believe in the religious authority of Ahl al-Bait and their knowledge of Quran’s esoteric interpretation. Some say this may not be proved by Quran’s verses but it is definitely proved by narrations. In this article, I will try to prove their knowledge of Quran’s esoteric interpretation by Quran’s verses and especially this verse “and those firmly grounded in knowledge”: ; I will also answer the questions and refuse the reasons of the ones who reject the indication of this verse.

When analyzing the ideas of western researchers on the Qur’an (1860-1977), one finds four different viewpoints regarding the time of the compilation of the Qur’an: John Burton holds that the compilation of the Qur’an was at the time of the holy Prophet (s); Fredrick Showily claims that the Qur’an was compiled at the time of Uthman; Paul Casanova and Alphonse Mingana believe that the Qur’an was compiled by the order of Hajjaj bin Yusuf at the time of Abdul Malik’s caliphate; John Vans brow thinks that the Qur’an was collected at the beginning of the third century. The skeptical approaches of Glut Tsar and Schacht about Islamic traditions are the source of these ideas. Burton’s attitude might be acceptable among the aforementioned ideas, but not according to the reasons he proposes in his research; rather, it is on the basis of intellectual, historic, narrative and Qur’anic reasoning that some religious scholars have put forward.
