Kerkenes Daq is one of the most important archaeological sites of Iron age in the Near East. It is situated at the northern edge of the Cappadocia plain in the Yozgat province of Turkey. Several seasons of archaeological surveys and excavations which has been conducted in this place, resulted in recognition of a city with an extraordinary size of 2.5 km2, surrounded by the long defensive stone wall of seven km. with seven gates. It included of sections with different purposes, such as military, residential, commercial, as well as various separate public and private structures as reservoir, stables, palatial complex with a monumental entrance, inscriptions, reliefs, and statues. Introducing the strategic situation, characteristics of the archaeological material of the site, we will try to recognize the original identity of Kerkenes, according to the material culture, and linguistic evidences, as well as written sources. Therefore, after a critical review of the earlier literature and hypotheses mentioned by different scholars on the under-study subject, it is proposed that this city with a royal scale, and as a regional center, probably is the Pteria, mentioned in the Herodotus’ Medikos Logos, and ruined in the 545 B.C., by the Lydians who craved for the revival of their rule after the Assyrian and Urartian powers’ fall. This event is attested through the excavations by traces of an extensively deliberate fire, destruction and looting the structures. At this time, around half of a century had just being passed since the time of foundation of the city. According to the linguistic, archaeological material, the late seventh century and the early sixth century B.C. is the most probable date for the short life of this site. Furthermore, in contrast to the Summers’ opinion which takes Median elites as the founders of the sites, we discuss that there is no data in favor of that assumption. Remains of Kerekenes, represent a mixed style of motifs, rules, and visual elements, adopted from diverse artistic traditions of different cultural zones and flourished in an era of complicated socio-political interaction between organized societies inside and around the Central Anatolia. However, one can see that these materials, display the western influence, rather than the eastern impact. Bearing in mind the fact that artistic and architectural remains of Kerkenes Daq either have parallels inside Anatolia or are unique, we have to recall that in this collection, there is no available sign of the direct influence of Media. On the other side, the context of the Kerkenes Daq’s material culture are closer to the Phrygian culture than any other one. Beside the parallels of the Phrygian samples of the Central Anatolia and Phrygian inscriptions which acquired from Kerekenes, the historical context of the Near East in the initial centuries of the first millennium B.C. verifies the Phrygian identity of the sites’ founders. In this context, Phrygian tribes got the chance to revive their rule and replace the former Gordion with the strong Kerkenes in such a strategic position. This site is situated in the southeast of Boğazkale and northwest of Alişar Hüyük, respectively with 50 and 20 km. distance from. Consequently, one can imagine that the Phrygian population of the Kerekenes were not isolated.

Developments in the first half of the third millennium B.C. led to the formation of extensive urban cultures in different regions of the Middle East with special iconography in works of art, which originated from their beliefs and convictions. Cultural zone of Elam in southwest of Iran with a focus on Susa and Choghazanbil, cultural zone of southeast of Iran with a focus on Jiroft, cultural zone of Sistan with a focus on Shahr-e Sukhteh, cultural zone of Gorgan with a focus on Bazghir, cultural zone of Khorasan centered on Shahrake Firouzeh and Chelow, Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex in Central Asia, as well as cultural zones in southern coast of Persian Gulf, Makran, Pakistan, and the Indus Valley are among the most important cultural zones of this period. Each urban culture in this period is recognized as a cultural-artistic center with specific ideological beliefs, social systems, traditions, ¬and unique art of iconography. The serpent has manifested as a mythical animal of chalcolithic period in material-artistic works of the above mentioned cultural zones with a different iconography. The present study was an attempt to evaluate the stylistic changes and mythical concepts of this motif in prehistoric urban centers of Iran and Central Asia with a comparative methodology and iconographic approach. The results indicated that the serpent motif in Eastern Iran and Central Asia art has been inspired by western Iran and Mesopotamia art and gradually has been integrated with art, beliefs, rituals, Eastern Iran and Central Asia mythology, and changes in social, religious, and political levels of these communities; therefore, it has led to innovations in artistic concepts and styles of this motif.

Chalcolit hic and Bronze Ages are among the most important eras in prehistoric periods of Iran; they serve different cultural data, such as, pottery, architectures, burial, etc. For instance, potteries from Chalcolit hic are buff in surface and use different geometrical mot ifs; whereas, in Bronze Age, we see sudden changes in pottery evidences. In this era, the tradit ion of buff wares had abolished and black-gray ones wit h carved designs occupied the wide range. This cultural difference followed by pottery variet ies have been well ident ified in cultural layers of the most parts of the Iran, especially in northwest areas. In respect with the cultural differences of the area and the properties of Bronze whether they have been derived from new Chalcolit hic culture or new works give evidence of a newly arrived nat ion/culture, there were advent of debates. But in spite of existed disagreement on the case as well as on the unsolved issues between the two eras, it seems that using experimental methods might provide so me responses to all of them. Current study aimed to invest igate the potsherds obtained from Chalcolit hic, and Bronze layers by studying the petrographic of Kul Tappeh at Hadishahr in northwest of Iran, this study attempts to find some informat ion about the soil used in them and their native status. Kul Tepe is a mult i-period tell, about 6 ha in extent and rising 19 m above the surrounding land. The site was originally discovered by an expedit ion in the province of East Azerbaijan in 1968 under the supervision of Kambakhsh Fard, and was later reported by other authors such as Edwards, Kliess, Kroll and Omrani as well. Kul Tepe is located precisely in the northwestern corner of Iran, which is the gateway between the Southern Caucasus and northwestern Iran. Kul Tepe is located next to a broad valley, at the center of the highlands and at the crossroads of major routes linking the Iranian plateau to Anatolia and the Caucasus to Northern Mesopotamia. The first season of excavat ion at Kul Tepe were carried out from June to August in 2010. Because of the huge quantit y of material and deposits at Kul Tepe, the site needs mor e research and excavat ion to better understand the cultural situation in the region. The second season ofexcavat ion was from August to October 2013 in order to answer certain quest ions about the region and extend the studied areas. Ten characterist ic potsherds (5 for each era) from Late Chalcolit hic and Early Transcaucasia culture (Kura-Araxes) were studied by thin section microscopic (petrographic) method. These potsherds had been obtained during the excavat ions on Kul Tepe. Due to obtained result s as wel l as external heterogeneit ies in the two era's potsherds texture, we will find other significant differences among them, including their fabric and texture type. Dominant texture in the potsherds of the Chalcolit hic is of silt or tiny crystals, where as that of Bronze are coarse and puffery. Yet, no one found any volcanic glasses in the potsherds of the Chalcolit hic, whereas potsherds of the other era have volcanic glasses as well as crescent and circle-like pieces. Wit h due attention to the area's geology, fishy sedimentation basin, volcanic stones, pyroclastic stone, calcareous stones, and … existed in the area, one could clearly state that origin of the Bronze potsherds is local; because, unexceptionally some pieces of volcanic or pyroclastic stones will be seen in all of them.

According to the documents of beginning stage, music was referred to speech or religious rituals. The word music was in a bush of ambiguity at early documents. The later documents demonstrated that music is returned to the pre-historic and Paleolithic period. Moreover, ancient society evidences illustrate that music and art of making musical instruments dated back to pre-historic period. Evidences show that the iconography of musical instrument had been identified on many ancient artifacts such as seals, high reliefs, different containers. Since human can display his/her inner passions by voice and the regular sound of the nature which they received, they started to create music with a variety of cultural songs and began to make a musical instrument. One of the earliest documentation of ancient musicology during urbanization is from the Sumerian period in Mesopotamian civilization. No written musical evidences have remained from Elamite period, but there exist some documents of written musical notation discovered from the ancient Sumerian city of Ur and Nippur in 1800 BC and ancient city of Avkaryt, the coast of Syria in the ancient Babylonian period which reveals the importance of music. Mesopotamia and Elam civilization during different periods have impinged over each other. Therefore, it is evident that their clothing, reliefs, seals, etc., have influenced by each other. The main question of this paper is how to shed light on the effect of music on Elamite and Mesopotamian civilization and the effect of Elamite and Mesopotamian civilization on music, according to archeological evidences. This study aims to analyze the place of music and the remains of its related motifs and iconographies from Elamite and Mesopotamian civilization descriptively and comparatively by library study and field study of the remains in the National Museum of Iran. The musical instruments motifs of Elam and Mesopotamia serves similarities and differences which demonstrated the musical culture of both sides. It can be said that at the old Elamite period Elamite musical culture was formally influenced by religion, but in early Elamite period it was influenced by everyday life usage of music. And before it started during the Elamite clay Chaghamish trace of stamp shows the use of music in everyday life. The influence of religion on the musical culture of ancient societies of Elam and Mesopotamia is similar. The musical culture of the Old and Middle Elamite period is in accordance of Sumer and Babylon musical culture. Elam musical culture has influenced by Sumer and Babylon civilization and religion. However, harp and lyre are the transitional musical instruments of Mesopotamia, Sumer, and Assur, which has been exported to Elam, Elamite music, in the second millennium BC, was more advanced because they used independent instruments such as Strum Handle. The double chord handle strum instrument Assyria has been influenced by Elam music. Elam music is independent by itself and most of the time have affected on Mesopotamia. In addition, festive music began in the country, New Elam also has evidence that the festive music, including a PA Arjan's Cup, The influence of music Elam is interesting, because before it was music in the service of religion and not only musical instruments but also the operation of the Assyrian similar lyrical music can be seen. The terms are due to musical works from Elam, and compare it with its own adjacent land is Mesopotamia. Another notable animal motifs and forms, as well as musicians playing it is significant, Especially in October, one of Elam is there and Mesopotamia where the horses are busy playing the harp. Its show is all musical cultures.

Ancient Bishapour is one of first of Cities Sassanid period that it was built by Shapur I. The royal structures in the northeastern city, famous monuments such as the Temple of Anahita ,Audience Hall Shapour, Mosaic Ivan.Plan of temple is square map and made of cleanly shaven stone entirely. Temple has elements that represent the flow of water from outside the building to inner space. On the other hand, some researchers believe the central room or inner space roofed and some bealieves that it without roofs.
The method is comparative cross-sectional study. It seems that probably the name of the two fire temples called Sheberkhashin and Gavsar Gumbaz, which had been mentioned by the very first Muslim authors, are in fact, the name of the two large buildings of the Bishapour city, respectively called building A and building B.
It has been deduced that at the beginning of the Sassanid era, the two elements of water and fire were being worshiped adjacently (like Sorkh Kotal) or in adjacent buildings (like buildings A and B).
Beside this element, the corridor (circumlocution corridor),which surrounds the hall or the main court of Anahita temple, is not merely functioning as the divider of the sacred places from the unclean; probably, the corridor used to emphasize that the building was a private one and was to divide the private buildings from the public ones.
Subsequently, due to the more common usage of the construction of Chārtāghi or the buildings with a cruciform plan, running from the fourth century onward, the corridor loses its religious function and mostly turns into a ceremonial place.
Regarding the function of the Anahita Temple, it can be stated that just on certain days of the year the water used to flow in its ducts. This building was dependent on the two elements of fire and water and the celebrations associated with these two. Due to the proximity of the Deity of Tir to Anahita and based on other certain documents, it can be mentioned that one of the grand celebrations that used to take place every year was the Tirgān celebration. The next question is about what activities or rituals, and on which days of the year were being done in Bishapour Anahita temple? According to the features of Building A of Bishapour, such as being half underground and containing water flow , it can be stated that: this building was not being used the whole year, and in a special ceremony water was let to flow in the ducts and was activated. These ceremonies depended on the two elements of fire and water and the festivities associated with these two.
The ceremonies associated with fire, at present, we know about at least two great celebrations called Sadeh, but we do not know what other significant royal activities needed celebrations to be held? It can probably be stated that whenever a blessed event occurred for the King, or king was fighting a battle, it was needed to set fire and hold a celebration in the Temple.
About festivities associated with water, There were two celebrations that can be named Tirgān and Abāngān. Due to the significance of the deity of Tir in early Sassanid, the author believes that one of the most important celebrations which was being held in Anahita temple, was Tirgan celebration. The celebration was held on 13 Tir month of solar Persian, equals of 4th July with and the cultural residues of this celebration after the Islamic era, can be seen in Abrizān celebration of people of Isfahan.

Module and proportions are substantially important in architecture, however: the studies of them do not meet one’s expectations in Iranian architecture. This issue is more noteworthy in Iran’s historical architecture. Median era is one of the most significantly important periods in Iran that caused new architectural designs and techniques to flourish. Nevertheless, few surveys have been conducted on the Module and proportions of this era which results in many ambiguities in this case. This paper attempts to discover the median modules and proportions. The well reserved architecture of Nushijan among other Median sites makes it a proper case for this research and it is also a suitable reference for comparing other Median sites. After conducting the field study, measuring the dimensions precisely and studying the excavation reports and evidences, the measurements were studied by AutoCAD and Matlab. Then the result was checked through statistical analysis. The results show a specific relation between the ratios of the length and the width of different structures. For instance the ratio of Nushijan length and width are similar to the ratio of Tell-Quba which is 5.02 on average. In addition, it seems that the median architecture followed a certain module of 20 cm which is observed in the construction of other buildings in Nushijan (castle, central and old western temple). Module and proportions are substantially important in architecture, however: the studies of them do not meet one’s expectations in Iranian architecture. Ardwīsūr Anāhīd, is the Middle Persian name of Arədvī Sūrā Anāhitā, a popular Zoroastrian yazatā; she is celebrated in Yašt 5 (known as the Ābān Yašt, q.v.) which is one of the longest and best preserved of the Avestan hymns. There has been written various books and articles on different aspects of her personality. Although many scholars in mythology, history, archaeology, art history, religion history etc, know Anāhitā as a well-identified goddess with a clear-cut profile, a critical investigation on the present knowledge about her indicates none of different aspects of her identity, including her origin, mythical function and specific rituals is of scientific clarity, and the apparent suspension in scientific researches about this goddess may be due to a dominant mentality in academic spaces, rather than to a scientific reliability achieved through analyses of rich documents. The mentioned mentality does not require, or even sometimes does not tolerate, the critical study of the present knowledge relevant to this goddess – who has been accepted since decades ago by prominent Iranian and non-Iranian researchers as to be a Persian goddess with partly identified personality, ceremonies and icons. Anāhitā’s representation and identification pose one of the most complex iconographic problems in the study of the visual arts of Iran. In literature she is mentioned by name, but her identification in art remains tentative since it rests primarily on her form, attributes, and activities. This goddess (goddess of water, fertilization and war) plays no significant role in Achaemenid theology and pantheon, with evidences showing her prominence for a short period as she appears only in the inscriptions of Artaxerxes II era (405-358 BC). During Seleucid (312-129 BC) and Parthian (247 BC-224 AD) periods, several Greek and Roman writers have implied to the shrine and/or statue of the goddess Anaitis, Artemis-Anaitis, Artemis-Persike, Aine etc. in the western regions of the two empires (Media, Elymais, Mesopotamia, Asia Minor). The inscriptions containing the name of mentioned goddess(es), however, have been obtained only from Asia Minor (though a few of the large number of inscriptions from the Syrian Palmyra have also indicated to a goddess called ‘nhyt). The name “Anaitis” is generally considered as the Greek equivalent of Ancient Persian “Anāhitā”, with her icon also being known as to be the icon of Anāhitā. Furthermore, there exist some feminine images from Seleucid and Parthian ages, ascribed to Anāhitā by some researchers. The present paper employs a contextual approach and utilizes library and museum resources to place the mentioned icons in the historical, ceremonial, mythical and artistic context of the ancient Western Asia, and verifies this iconology through a comparative analysis of the ancient East iconography. By using this approach, it is concluded that the traditional assignment of the mentioned feminine images to the goddess Anāhitā may not be based on strong evidences, because these icons all of which have been obtained from the Elymais territory (southwestern Iran, with Susa as the capital), originate from the ritual traditions of Elymais people, which in turn are deeply influenced by Semitic theology of Mesopotamia and partly affected by Hellenic myths iconography. Moreover, no image from among the artistic pieces of Seleucid and Parthian periods can be attributed to the goddess Anāhitā, with certainty.
