This paper examines the response of natural gas prices to crude oil prices in Europe and America. Gas price variations in regional markets mostly follow crude oil prices. Economic variables such as oil and gas prices fluctuate substantially over time. We find that nonlinear models are preferable to linear regression for the study of such fluctuations. The regime switching model provides a flexible and dynamic framework for the study of sudden changes. In this paper, we use the MSVAR approach to study the impact of oil price changes on gas prices during the period of January 1996 to June 2017. This relationship changes with time, during certain periods oil price has a positive effect on gas prices while during other times it has a negative effect. In Europe, the first lag of oil price has a negative effect for 1 month, and positive one for 16 months. During both time periods, the second lag effect of oil prices on gas prices are positive. In the United States, there was a positive effect for the first lag of oil price for 2 months. The second lag of oil price had a positive impact on gas prices for 22 months. The Granger causality test supports the thesis that changes in oil prices are the Granger cause of changes in gas prices.

Petroleum industry activities can be divided into upstream and downstream sectors. Major upstream activities include exploration of oil reservoirs, drilling and extraction of crude oil, as well as production oil for supply to domestic refineries and export terminals. Refining crude oil and producing oil derivatives are considered in the downstream sector. In this paper, we study optimization of upstream activities of the oil industry and model the crude oil supply chain (COSC) management problem is modeled. The aim of this research is to provide a mathematical optimization model to assist in decision making regarding optimal exploitation of oilfields and COSC management that maximizes the net present palue (NPV) of crude oil production. For this purpose we use a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model to project strategic and operational decisions for a given time horizon. We use the robust possibilistic programming (RPP) approach to deal with the inherent stochastic or epistemic uncertainty of oil price and demand. Finally, we use the GAMS (CPLEX Solver) software to apply this model and assess its applicability to the National Iranian South Oil Company. The numerical results confirm the applicability of the MILP model, which can be used to maximize the NPV of crude oil for the selected time horizons.

This study investigates the impact of political institutions on the relationship between oil revenues and financial development in oil-rich countries. We apply the panel data approach to information available for OPEC and OECD countries over the period 1970 to 2013. The results show that oil revenues have negative effect on financial developments in both country groups. Moreover the impact of democracy on financial development is positive and it also mitigates the negative impact of oil revenues on financial development. This indicates that countries can moderate the negative effects of oil revenues on their financial system by improving the quality of their institutions. Our results are robust to different model specifications and choice of control variables.

The oil industry has always had a financial role in the Iranian economy and oil price fluctuations are the biggest source of economic disruptions in the country. The capital market is one important part of the economy that can be affected by these fluctuations. Therefore, this paper we use the DCC-MGARCH model to examine the dynamic conditional correlation between oil prices, gold prices and exchange rate of the Rial with the Tehran Stock Exchange index over the period from March 2001 to March 2017. We use the MGARCH method to calculate conditional variances. Dynamic conditional correlation between variables are calculated using the DCC-MGARCH dynamic conditional correlation. The results confirm the existence of conditional correlation between oil prices, gold prices and exchange rate of the Rial with the Tehran Stock Exchange Index. The dynamic conditional correlation between the Tehran Stock Exchange Index and the exchange rate fluctuated between 0 and 0.001 (very low) until mid 2003, when it went up to between 0 and 0.005. This relationship continues to fluctuate and after initially reverting back to its original level, has became more intense since mid-2008 and fluctuates between zero and 0.006. The dynamic conditional correlation between the Tehran Stock Exchange Index and the gold price has followed a trend similar to that of the exchange rate, indicating a high correlation between the exchange rate and the gold price. The correlation between the Tehran stock exchange index and oil price averages 0.5, and demonstrates substantial volatility.

The Increasing share of greenhouse gas emissions in emerging economies and Iran will increase the need for their participation in greenhouse gas emissions reduction programs. The proper allocation of CO2 emission quotas could provide a solid foundation for future emission trading between countries. There are many approaches in allocating emission quotas. Based on the radial zero sum gains data envelopment (ZSG-DEA) allocation model, this paper uses a non-radial ZSGDEA model to allocate CO2 emissions between BRICS Countries and Iran. Unlike previous studies treating CO2 as an input variable, we treat CO2 as an undesirable output variable, which can be distributed between countries based on Pareto optimality conditions. Our model results indicate that countries with higher efficiency would witness an increase in their emission allowances. The allocation of CO2 emission quotas according to (ZSG-DEA) allocation model, results in an optimal allocation of CO2 emissions in all countries. Our model results will increase the pressure on China to reduce emissions, while Russia will have less responsibility for reducing emissions. We can thus conclude that optimal policy making should be based on a set of indicators of a country's economic development.

This paper examines the effects of choice of different options for producing electricity (fossil fuels, nuclear and renewable) on the development of power plants in Iran and prioritizing amongst these options through use of cost benefit analysis and the LEAP modeling tool. This research is informed by multiple scenarios regarding the development of electricity generation activities and different share of each of these options in Iran's electricity production for the period 2015-2041. The study results indicate that the policy of optimal development of power plants is the most beneficial policy choice with the policy of developing renewable power plants (with the goal of 20% of the share of production) as the second best choice.

In this paper we study the Oil and Gas sector, as a key component of the Iranian economy, using the 2011 input-output table (Iran statistics center, 1390) that divides the economy into 40 parts. We study the extent of integration of the oil and gas sector in Iran’s economy through computing different coefficients including backward and forward linkage multi player coefficients.
Our calculations indicate that the service sector is the most important sector contributing to outputs of the oil and gas sector. This means that to produce one unit of product in oil sector, 0. 012 units of the service sector are used. The sensitivity index for the oil and gas sector is greater than one, indicating that other sectors use inputs from this sector, both directly and indirectly, in their activities.
Our research futher confirms the importance of the oil sector both as a direct input to ther sectors and in its role in covering final demand.
We aslo caculate oil and gas sector backward and forward linkage multi player indexes for earlier periods using the input-output tables produced for the years 2001, 1991 and 1981. The change in the values of these linkages indicates a substantial increase in forward linkages of the oil and gas sector, largely explained by the growth of refining activities.
