We investigated antibacterial effects of sodium acetate (2%) on microbial, biochemical and sensory characteristics of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) vacuum packed and stored during 18 days at 2±1°C. Initial total bacteria count was 2.82 logfulg, indicating quality of the prepared fish was high. Psycrotrophic bacteria of unheated and treated vacuum packed samples reached maximum acceptable limit (7 logdaig) after 14 and 18 days of storage, respectively. Entrobacteriaceae and lactic acid bacteria count were lower than maximum acceptable limit during 18 days. Therefore, we based determination of microbial assessment of products shelf life on time to reach maximal acceptable limit for Psycrotrophic bacteria in treatments. There were no significant difference (P>0.05) between vacuum packed and sodium acetate vacuum packed samples in TBA and TMA values. During most of examination time, TBA and TMA values of sodium acetate vacuum packed samples were lower than untreated vacuum packed sam.....

This research was conducted in 2007 on Cyprinus carpi° in Alvand High School in Ghasreshirin. We randomly selected 20 broodstock male fishes in 2 age classes (2, 3 years old). In each year class, 10 males were selected and after sperm striping, seminal plasma were allocated in different groups, and pH was measured. Seminal plasma pH had significant difference among two age classes of males and in 2 male age class was 8.2±0.2 while in 3 males was 8.5±0.4. This value in 3 year group was the highest and in 2 age class was the lowest. Blood serum pH was not significantly different between the two male age classes and in 2 male age class was 7±0.1 while in 3 males was 710.12. Duration of sperm motility in 2 male age class was 83.82±1.2s and for 3 males was 89.3 1.4s. This value in 2 male age class was the lowest and showed significant difference with other groups. Spermatocrit in 2 age class was (45±0.7) significantly different than 3 (47±0.6) at the level of 5%. In males kept. ....

We measured biometrical properties of kutum (Rutilus frisii kutum) and mullet (Mugil cephalus) in Iranian coastal waters of the Caspian Sea along caught with a new Beach Seine mesh size and the results were compared with that of common Beach Seine (control). The results indicated that newly designed Beach seine, catches less nonftbstandard fish than the control. The proportion of non-standard kutum and mullet in the new Beach Seine was 7.7 and 1.1 percent respectively; these results in control were 67.1 and 29.98 percent. The average length and weight of kutum and mullets, caught by newly designed Beach Seine was higher than the control. The Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE) in the two types of Beach Seines was approximately the same. The results showed, by promoting this newly Beach Seine, we can largely prevent fishing of non-standard bony fish (immature) in the Caspian Sea coastal waters......

The effects of broodstock age on consecutive spawning performance of wild-caught ablated Fenneropenaeus indicus females in four age groups 6, 8, 12, and 14 months old were studied. Assessment duration was 30 days. Age groups were determined based on carapace length of broodstock caught from Jask fishing ground. Maximum female partnership percentage in consecutive spawning was for 12 months old group. Correlation between egg production and hatch in each spawning with number of spawning in 12 months old broodstock was weaker than other groups but this relation has negative and significant (r = -0.38, P0.05) but others groups had significantly higher hatch rate (P

Distribution and density of different phytoplankton groups in Hormuzgan province along the Persian Gulf, from Sirik Harbor to Nayband Bay were studied during winter 2004. Sampling was carried out on board of Ferdous-1 research vessel in seven transects (21 stations) in three lines including surface layer (0-20m), middle and bottom layers (20-50m and more than 50m, respectively). We found 46 genera of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae), 19 genera of dinoflagellates, 6 genera of blue-green algae (Cyanophyceae), 1 genus of Euglenophyceae and 1 genus of Chrysophyceae. We recorded maximum and minimum phytoplankton density in different transects at 37665583 and 2433208 cells/m3 respectively. The maximum density was 62762083 cells/m3 for Bacillariophyceae group that was sampled in surface layer (0-20m) of the station 9. Also, we found that average total number of phytoplankton in three lines of seven transects was 11728973 cells/m3. One way ANOVA showed a significant difference for average number of.....

This research was conducted during 2007-2008 with the main aim of classifying marine coastal habitats in Gwatr Bay located in Iran-Pakistan border, south east of Sistan-Blaluchetan Province. We used Coastal-Marine Ecological Standard Classification (CMECS) with three data layers covering water column, benthic cover classifier and geomorphology. Layers and habitats information were analyzed in a GIS environment and the indicator species were determined. WCC classification was done based on temperature, salinity and clarity classifiers for Ichthyoplankton communities. The result showed that two main seasonal habitats including spring habitat (spring, summer and winter) and fall habitat, affected by the monsoon season is present in the area. Also we considered particle size and total organic matter in sediment as classifiers for benthic habitats which indicated two different habitats based on distances from shore. Habitats were divided into unmixed macro-benthos community (polychaete) and.....

Culture of sturgeon species is of great economic and ecological importance for those countries such as Iran whose natural stocks have declined. This species has shown a good growth performance in many types of production systems and in tanks with different sizes. Recently, sturgeon species is also offering good prospects for aquaculture in north of Iran, including: Guilan, Mazandaran and Golestan provinces. Several species of sturgeon are now considered attractive candidates for whole-cycle production in Iran. Production analysis may help manager of a sturgeon farm in decision making and in adjusting to changes. Economic assessment provides a basis not only for decision making among farm managers but also for formulating government aquaculture policies. Over the period 2006, based on previous experiments with cultured cam, shrimp and trout farming, total costs, total income, profitability and the contribution of production costs for sturgeon farming were determined by completing questi.....
