The motive behind the segregation school, as it has been designed and proposed, is an understanding of religiouse belifes and teachings free from eclecticism mixing religious teachings with philosophical and mysitical views. The claim of this school is that religious understanding can be disentangled from philosophical interpetations inconsistent with the literal religion and that man’s ultimate felicity lies in this disentanglement. The key focus of this theological school is on ontology that it is through ontology that one can appreciate the epistemological issues. The present article is an attempt to explore the ontological principles of segregation school. The conclusion is that most of the ontological views presented in this school are biased against transcendental wisdom as they are mostly aimed at rejecting transcendental philosophical views. For this reason its basic principles lose ground to the extent that one cannot even attribute them to Islmic traditions. It should acknowledged that the originators and commentators of this school have different views and that this article is focused on the originators’ views.

In his works, Avicenna frequently refers to the unity theory; however, his real views toward this issue are not clear, as he argues both for and against this theory. On the one hand, he is well known as someone who has rejected the unity theory and on the other hand he has been identified as someone who departed from his original views and adopted the unity theory. Avicenna’s inconsistent views have created ambiguities which are the focus of the present paper. The aim is to resolve the issue with reference to his views as expressed in his different works. An attempt is made to explain his views providing evidence from his texts. The conclusion is that Avicenna’s views with regard to the unity theory are not indeed inconsistent. In fact, he has been consistent in arguing for the unity of intelligent and intelligible.

Rational and religious goodness and badness have different consequences in three domains of justice, prophecy and resurrection. The theory of religious goodness and badness also leads to an inability to prove God’s attributes rationally. This theory also fails to present a rational account of the necessity of prophetic mission and infallibility of the prophets, resurrection and obligations. It is only through the religious goodness and badness that one can appreciate the God’s attributes and consider God free from bad actions and tyranny. As the performance of a deed by God or lack of it cannot be proven rationally the religious law loses it credibility and therefore its commandments and promises will not be obligatory. In contrast, the theory of rational goodness and badness does not have these weaknesses in terms of instruments and consequences. With the acceptance of rational goodness and badness, it is possible to prove God’s attributes rationally and with an emphasis on the badness of declaration of a miracle by the false advocates of prophecy and the badness of the negation of God’s intention, many issues in the domain of prophecy and its secondary issues are proved rationally. It is also possible to present rational reasons on the necessity of resurrection through rational goodness and badness..

Causality is one of the most important philosophical issues which has attracted the attention of Islamic philosophers. They have made a lot of efforts to refine it in accordance with the religious teachings. With reference to the religious concept of creation, Avicenna draws on Aristotle’s potentiality and actuality, but moves beyond these concepts to existence and quiddity and in this movement tries to renovate most of the concepts related to causality. For example, through his efforts, the criterion required for the ‘possibility through preparedness’ has evolved into ‘substantial possibility’. God as the First Unmoved Mover who is True Actuality and Ultimate Cause has become Self-Existent, Pure Existent and Efficient Agent. Also God who is Knower of Himself becomes Knower of all else than Himself. In brief, in the interpretation of causality, ‘concession of existence to quiddity’ substitutes for " actualization of the potential".
Keywords: causality, Avicenna, Aristotle, creation, substantial possibility.

The focus of the present article is on the issues related to the language of religion. One of the important features of the language of religion is the firmness and similarity of the Qur'anic verses. The aim is to reflect on the views of Ibn Arabi and Allameh Tabatabai on these features of the Qur'anic verses. Many experts believe that the firmness and similarity are integral features of Quranic verses. They take the view that similar verses are similar in nature. Knowledge of the true meaning of the similars is out of human knowledge realm and it is in the realm of divine knowledge. Ibn Arabi and Allameh Tabatabai in response to this issue of the language of religion have expressed views which are different from the ones mentioned above. In this article, the views of Ibn Arabi and Allameh Tabatabai about quiddity of the firm and the similar are compared and contrasted. The method adopted is a mixture of the tradition and rational analysis. The conclusions are: first, the relationship between firmness and similarity on the one hand and absolute existence and manifestation in mysticism on the other; second, the intrinsic similarity of the similar verses with reference to the particular interpretation of Ibn Arabi; third, the relative similarity from Allameh Tabatabai’s point of view; fourth, lack of inconsistency between the views of Ibn Arabi and Allmaeh Tabatabai on similarity, intrinsic or relative, and the possibility of their integration.

The theory of reincarnation, as one of the basic teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism, has long been the subject of philosophical, mystical and theological disputes among Muslim scholars, who have strongly argued against it. As some unconventional Muslim groups and sects have been known to have accepted or have been affiliated with the theory of incarnation, the discussion of this theory has made its way into different theological fields up to the present time. Taking a Gnostic perspective, the great Sufi, Sheikh Ala ud-Daula Semnani (7 and 8 A.H), as one of the renowned Persian mystics, opposed the prevalence of reincarnation teachings in his time with admirable lucidity and precision. The present article is an attempt to analyze his opposition through and analysis his works. Key Terms: Ala’dole Semnani, reincarnation, exemplification ,transmigration, metempsychosis
