In the life spirit of Hijaz of fourteen centuries ago, when all cultural set of people of there were limited to verbal and narrative stories, a messenger was emerged that amongst the very first verses revealed to him was the order to write down.
    الذی علم بالقلم
“Who taught by the pen” (96:4)
At the time when even people try to record the commercial trades in their verbal memory, God ordered people in Quran to write down trades, selling and buying and invite others to be the witness of this trade and the witnesses should record what they have witnessed.
تلک آیات الل نتلوها علیک بالحق وإنک لمن المرسلین
“These are the verses of Allah. We recite (them) to you in truth, for you (Prophet Muhammad) are one of the Messengers. ” (2:252)
This religion also has been emphasizing on writing down science. The holy prophet, Muhammad, to put his words in letters which are interpretation and commentaries on Quran – ordered to get help from your hand and advised people to rein science by writing it and save it from oblivion or failure of memory.
For this reason, from the very first centuries of Islam History, a number of books were written but unfortunately a few number of them got destroyed or burnt in wars. Tribal discords, blind violence, country attacks, ignorance and heedlessness were of the factors resulted in loss of books.
Despite all these negative incidents, some of these books could remain which are still like torch of guidance, illuminating the right path to right-seekers. Sahifal al-Sajjadiyah is one of these books.
And further, we should mention those great libraries where are the cause of honor for human civilization; the libraries next to mosques, inside schools, and sometimes inside the houses of elites or palaces of kings. Management of these libraries is a shiny chapter in the history of human civilization. For example, the beautiful and humanistic custom of وقف donation to keep books and expanding libraries, expansion of book publication, encouragement of elites and other activities like these.
The history shows that expansion of libraries was an old custom of muslims. No one stood up against this nice activity unless some rulers, when they conquered a territory.
In the recent years, the groups who claimed to be real muslims, by the name of religion and Islam, took some actions like burning books and libraries in some districts which spotted the clear face of Islam; while the illuminated record of Islamic sources and life style of Muslims in all their territory, is a clear answer to these violent actions.
Book is the inheritance of bygones. Take care of it and value it.
