    Background and aims
Polystyrene microplates are generally used to specify the absorption in the visible light region of the spectrum. However, they are capable of absorption in the ultraviolet (UV) range of the spectrum while they are not suitable for UV spectroscopy analysis. This study aimed to compare polystyrene and cycloolefin microplates for their background absorbance characteristics in the UV/ VIS region of the spectrum.

    Methods
Background absorbance of the mentioned microplates was measured using two different spectrophotometers and four various samples.

    Results
The analysis of our results verified the advantage of applying cycloolefin microplate over polystyrene one for absorbance measurements in the UV range of the spectrum.

    Conclusion
In general, suitable microplate selection is a critical factor in absorbance measurements, especially in the UV portion of the spectrum.

    Background and aims
Postoperative pain control decreases negative effects on the health domains of the patients and their relatives in addition to reducing the costs and the duration of hospitalization. The aim of the present study was to comparatively investigate the analgesic effects of ginger and diclofenac tablets.
    Materials and Methods
In this clinical trial, 80 patients undergoing inguinal hernia surgery were randomly divided into two groups of 40. One group received 250 mg ginger capsule while the other one received 100 mg diclofenac tablet. Then, the patients were examined within 6 hours (every two hours) and their pain was assessed using the standard 10-point visual analogue scale. Finally, the data were analyzed using the SPSS, version 22.
    Results
Based on the results, there was no significant difference in pain severity between the two groups at 0, 2, 4, and 6 hours after recovery (P>0.05). In addition, no significant difference was observed in the duration of pain since the time of patient recovery between the two groups (P>0.05). Further, as regards the number of patients receiving pethidine, no difference was found between the two groups (P>0.05).
    Conclusion
In general, both ginger capsule and diclofenac tablet were similarly effective in relieving the pain after inguinal hernia surgery

    Background and aims
Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is a myokine which is produced and secreted by skeletal muscle. Given the inconsistent results on the relationship between the intensity of training and the improvement of blood indices in diabetic patients, the current research investigated the effect of endurance training at different intensities on serum FGF21 level, glucose, and insulin resistance
    in streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic male rats.

    Methods
To this end, 50 rats (with a mean weight of 23.28±25.05 g) were randomly divided into healthy (non-diabetic) control, diabetic control, as well as low, moderate, and high-intensity endurance training groups. Diabetes was induced in all rats by the injection of STZ. Three days after STZ injection, the blood samples were taken from the cut tip of the tails, and those rats with blood glucose levels above 300 mg/dL were considered diabetic and included in the study. The program included 8-week aerobic training at different intensities. The blood samples (5 cc) were directly collected from the hearts 48 hours after the last training session, followed by measuring the serum FGF21 level, glucose, and insulin. Finally, the analysis of variance and Bonferroni post-hoc test were used for inter-group comparison and the significance level was considered <0.05.

    Results
Based on the results, the serum glucose level, insulin resistance, and FGF21 reduced after eight weeks of endurance training. The reduction of FGF21 in higher intensity endurance training group was greater compared to the other groups (P<0.05) and the reduction of glucose in moderate intensity group was more significant in comparison to that of the other groups (P<0.001). However, the insulin level increased, which was more pronounced in the moderate intensity training group compared to the other groups (P=0.002).

    Conclusion
Overall, both moderate and high-intensity endurance training led to a comparatively more effective reduction in blood glucose and insulin resistance. Therefore, these two parameters may have a protective effect on the complications associated with diabetes in the rats.

    Background and aims
Exercise time is one of the main challenges of athletes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acute aerobic exercise at different times of the day on iron status and hematological factors in professional football players.

    Methods
In this quasi-experimental study, 40 professional football players were randomly divided into morning exercise, evening exercise, morning control, and evening control groups. The experimental groups performed Bruce’s test in the morning and evening. To measure iron, ferritin, red blood cell (RBC), and hemoglobin (Hb), the blood samples were taken before, immediately after, as well as 24 and 72 hours after the Bruce test. Repeated-measure ANOVA and two-way ANOVA (group*time) were used to analyze the obtained data.

    Results
The results showed a significant increase immediately after an acute aerobic exercise while demonstrating a significant decrease in RBC and Hb in morning and evening exercise groups 24 and 72 hours after the exercise compared to the control groups. In addition, a significant reduction immediately after the acute aerobic exercise, whereas a significant increase 24 and 72 hours after the exercise, was observed in the serum levels of iron and ferritin in the morning and evening exercise groups compared to the control groups. As regards the serum levels of iron, an immediate significant decrease, along with a significant increase 24 hours after the acute aerobic exercise was found between the morning and evening exercise groups (P≤0.05).

    Conclusion
It seems that performing acute endurance training in the evening is safe in terms of reducing the serum levels of iron and developing the "exercise-induced anemia". Finally, at least 24 hours is required for the recovery of hematological parameters after acute endurance training.

    Background and aims
Respiratory allergens cause several problems for people with allergic rhinitis and are considered as a global challenge. This disease is an IgE-mediated nasal inflammatory disease that is triggered by the contact of the allergen. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate respiratory allergens and associated factors in patients with allergic rhinitis who referred to a clinic in
Shahrekord located in the southwest of Iran.

    Methods
In this cross-sectional study, 200 patients including 100 males and 100 females were enrolled using a convenience sampling technique. Diagnoses were made according to clinical symptoms and observation. In addition, the skin prick tests were used to detect the allergens. Finally, data were recorded and then analyzed by Stata.

    Results
Based on the results, 73.5%, 70.5%, 46%, and 43% of the patients were allergic to the following allergens including Dermatophagoid pteronyssinus, Dermatophagoides parinae, tree, and grass, respectively. Further, the mean height in the group with a positive and negative test for the inhaled allergens equaled 144.92±29.72 and 131.65±30.93, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05).
However, the mean weight, age, and the time at the onset of the disease were not significantly different between the two groups (P>0.05). Furthermore, the negative or positive reaction to the allergens failed to significantly differ with respect to gender, marital status, occupation, the county of residence, the area of residence, family size, and a family history of the disease (P>0.05).

    Conclusion
Allergic rhinitis is regarded as a common disorder among teenagers and young adults in this setting. Allergy to one or more respiratory allergens was found to be highly prevalent in patients with allergic rhinitis and the highest rate of allergy was observed to the mites, followed by tree and grass.

    Background and aims
Many studies have investigated the interpersonal dimensions of narcissism, though women’s perceptions of sexual relationship with a narcissistic individual have rarely been the topic of interest. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the sexual lived experiences of women living with narcissistic men.

    Methods
To this end, a qualitative thematic analysis was used to have a better understanding of the concept. A total of 31 women were selected through convenience sampling technique and were interviewed using a semi-structured interview, all of whom were living with their narcissistic husbands. All interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed by thematic analysis.

    Results
Based on the findings of this study, two main themes emerged during data analysis. First, women found their sexual relationship with a narcissistic man insecure, as well as the perception that their relationship was one-sided and demanding. In addition, the insecured relationship comprised several subthemes including the lack of sexual intimacy, sexual aggression and unwanted sex, and low commitment.
The other main themes contained two sub-themes, namely, unrealistic and excessive expectations from the spouse and the relationship and the lack of responsibility and cooperation of the husband.

    Conclusion
This study was mainly focused on sexuality in living with a narcissistic person and the results showed that sex is strongly influenced by the consequences of narcissism. This study also has some research and clinical implications for future research.

Pompe disease is a lysosomal storage disorder that results from an inborn error of metabolism which involves abnormal glycogen storage. Infantile-onset Pompe disease is the most severe phenotype that manifests with the findings of hypotonia, generalized muscle weakness, feeding difficulties, a failure to thrive, hearing loss, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with systolic dysfunction, and respiratory distress. There is no effective treatment for Pompe disease and clinical control includes primary support health care. However, recent studies have reported that enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) can effectively decrease the symptoms or severity of the disease. The present study is a case report of a 24-day patient with infantile-onset Pompe disease who presented coughing and respiratory distress. The infant experienced fatigue during breastfeeding from the birth and developed dry and nonproductive coughs and perioral cyanosis from two weeks after the birth. The echocardiogram demonstrated left and right ventricular enlargement, mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, and pulmonary hypertension. After definitive diagnosis, the patient was administered with 20 mg/kg of alglucosidase 50 mg vial once every two weeks. He experienced significant improvement in body weight and echocardiogram and symptoms such as fatigue during breastfeeding and perioral cyanosis disappeared completely while he was under Myozyme treatment. In general, the observations confirmed the efficacy of Myozyme in a patient with infantile Pompe disease. Therefore, early diagnosis and quick treatment of Pompe disease with Myozyme can lead to acceptable outcomes, improve conditions, and finally, increase the chance of survival in these patients.
