    Background
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic mucocutaneous disease with unknown etiology. Several studies reported conflicting results of blood group antigens in patients with OLP. The current study aimed at evaluating the prevalence of blood group antigens in patient with OLP compared with the healthy persons.
    Methods
The current case-control study included 55 patients with OLP and 55 healthy individuals. Subjects in the case and control groups were matched by age and gender. Blood group of the study participants was determined by the laboratory cooperated with the project and accordingly, the results were recorded. The data were analyzed with SPSS version 19 using chi-square test.
    Results
People participating in the study included 55 patients with OLP (including 41 females and 14 males) and 55 healthy volunteers (43 females and 12 males) with the age range of 19 to 66 years. Based on statistical analysis, there was no significant difference between the case and control groups.
    Conclusions
Based on the obtained results of the current study, the frequency of ABO and Rh (Rhesus) blood groups was not different between the study groups.

    Background
Currently, use of cellular phones has increased dramatically. Therefore, there are major concerns about their effect on users’ health. Only a limited number of studies have evaluated the effect of cellular phones on salivary activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx).
    Objectives
The present study was performed to evaluate the salivary activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxide in cellular phone users.
    Methods
The present cross-sectional study was carried out on 40 volunteers, with no oral diseases, who were assigned to the control (deaf subjects) and case (cellular phone users) groups. Salivary samples were collected from all subjects. The salivary activities of the two enzymes above were determined. Data were analyzed with the SPSS 21 software. Independent t-test was used to compare the two groups.
    Results
The salivary levels of SOD in the control and case groups were 128.9 ± 35.6 U/mL and 82.37 ± 32.3 U/mL, respectively, indicating a statistically significant difference (P = 0.000). There was no significant difference in salivary levels of GPx between the two groups (P = 0.3).
    Conclusions
Based on the results of the present study, use of cellular phones resulted in a decrease in the activity of a component of the anti-oxidative system, decreasing the capacity to eliminate free radicals by the saliva; this makes the individual susceptible to inflammatory and malignant conditions.

    Background
Use of different intracanal medicaments and irrigating solutions is an essential step in root canal treatment to decrease microbial count. Some medicinal plants have antimicrobial properties. This study sought to assess and compare the antimicrobial effects of aqueous extract of Teucrium polium (TP) with and without calcium hydroxide (CH) on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus saprophyticus in comparison with Chlorhexidine (CHX).
    Methods
In this in vitro experimental study, the antimicrobial efficacy of TP alone and in combination with CH was evaluated by disc diffusion and whole plate diffusion methods. The diameter of inhibition zones was measured by a ruler. Data was analyzed with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and non-parametric Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests (SPSS version: 16).
    Results
The TP extract alone had no antibacterial effects after 24 hours of incubation and the mean diameter of the growth inhibition zones was zero. Significant differences were observed in calcium hydroxide plus CHX group in comparison with the other groups in four bacteria (P
    Conclusions
Calcium hydroxide plus CHX had the highest antibacterial effects compared with other medicaments and the TP extract had no antibacterial effects.

    Background
Dental caries and periodontal diseases are one of the most important oral health problems around the world. Children of all age groups are affected by dental caries. It seems that data collection on prevalence of tooth decays and treatment needs is necessary to provide preventive care.
    Objectives
Therefore, the present study was done to evaluate DMFT and CPTIN indices and personal behaviors in the 12-year-old school children in the city of Zahedan.
    Methods
In this descriptive-analytical study, Zahedan city was divided into two regions (based on socio-economical situation); 10 school (boys and girls) from each region and 47 students from each school, were randomly selected. DMFT and CPTIN indices of 942, 12-year-old school children (based on world health organization (WHO) criteria) were evaluated. Data were analyzed by SPSS 19, t-test, and chi-square.
    Results
The mean DMFT in the studied population was 0.94 ± 0.5 (1.18 ± 0.5 in girls and 0.7 ± 0.38 in boys). Tooth decay component was the essential component of DMFT index (0.62 for boys and 1 for girls). A total of 70.7% (666 ones) of individuals 74.3% of boys (327 ones) and 67.5% of girls (339 ones) were caries free and 29.3% (276 persons) had dental caries. Dental caries rate in two genders no significantly differed (P
    Conclusions
The mean DMFT score in 12 year old school children was lower than the global standards presented by WHO. Dental caries rate was low in studied population. Peridontal health status in girls was better than boys. People who brushed their teeth before sleeping had a desirable oral health status. For 12 year old children, oral health education is necessary in improving oral health.

Variations in the number of roots and canals have been previously reported. Presence of two separate roots or two palatal canals in the maxillary second molars is among the rare variations encountered. This study reports two cases of maxillary second molars (first one with two separate palatal roots and the second one with one root and two palatal canals). Although these variations are extremely rare, knowledge in this respect can help in successful endodontic treatment.
