The two dimensional and three dimensional numerical simulation of blood flow in a centrifugal pump with 16 radial blades placed on a magnetically suspended impeller have been presented. The results of simulation for the pump of model Kyoto-NTN have been obtained using multi-reference frame (MRF), sliding mesh, and dynamic mesh methods. With the assumption of incompressible flow and Newtonian fluid, the blood flow is simulated in an unsteady turbulent manner using collocated finite volume method over unstructured grids. The results showed that with the rotational speed of 2000 round per minute, the capacity and pressure difference of pump are 5 l/min and 15.1 kPa, respectively. Results including the pressure distribution, the velocity vectors, the flow pattern, the shear stress contours, and the pump characteristics illustrated that using the double spiral shaped volute leads to the symmetrical pressure distribution around the surface of impeller, and consequently, the reduction of radial thrust. The maximum wall shear stress is observed near the cutwater splitter leading edge and blade leading edges. So, these regions are highly at the risk of Hemolysis. Finally, the results of simulation obtained from two and three dimensional modeling with various moving boundary capturing methods have been presented and compared.

INVELOX wind turbine is a new concept in harnessing wind energy. This technology gathers wind by omnidirectional or unidirectional intakes and increases wind velocity by concentrating wind in the venturi section. Then return it back to the environment through the diffuser. INVELOX technology offers suitable financial indicators and solves windmills environmental issues, like noise. Therefore, INVELOX becomes an opponent of fossil fuels. This technology uses 84% smaller blade compare to windmills, so it overcomes installation difficulties and it is an economically feasible system in wind energy industries.
In this paper, CFD simulations are used to evaluatethe speed ratio of 1.7 of the system and field data of a small scale INVELOX, installed in Siahpoush, Manjil was reported. In order to evaluat duct effects on the turbine performance, INVELOX turbine was compared to the traditional wind turbine with the same blade diameter. So output power and energy were recorded for both turbines. This study shows INVELOX has the ability to harness, deliver and accelerate free wind and produces more power and energy with a higher performance.

The effects of orifice diameter, pipeline initial pressure and pressure drop rate due to rupture on the differential pressure of diaphragm valve in a automatic line-break control valve have been studied by experiments. The fluid in this experimental investigation was nitrogen. The reference tank is connected to the pipeline through a calibrated orifice with check valve. The tank pressure is higher than pipeline pressure when pressure reduction occurs by line breaking. If the pressure difference between tank and pipeline is higher than the sustainable pressure value of diaphragm valve, the valve will be closed by actuator. The differential pressure of diaphragm valve is increased by the growth of pipeline pressure drop rate. The occurrence time of maximum differential pressure of diaphragm valve just depends on the orifice diameter. The maximum of differential pressure increases with the decrease of orifice diameter. The setting differential pressure of control valve was increased by decrease of pipeline initial pressure or orifice diameter or increase of pressure drop rate. The curves of non-dimensional maximum differential pressure generated by non-dimensional pipeline pressure drop rates are shown for different orifice diameters and pipeline initial pressure. These important curves will be used for design and setting of these automatic line-break control valve operation.

This study presents a numerical investigation of laminar combined radiative-convective heat transfer in a 2-D rectangular duct. The radiating gas is assumed a mixture of air with CO2 and H2O. The bottom wall made by Silicon and Germaniumis assumed to be spectral and the top surface is gray. The effect of increase in surface temperature and mole fraction of gas mixture on the thermal behavior of such system under the spectral behavior of the boundary surfaces is carried out. Fot thid purpose, in the numerical computations, the energy equation is solved numerically by the well-known finite volume method; while for computation of the radiative term in the gas energy equation, the radiative transfer equation (RTE) is solved numerically by the discrete ordinate method (DOM). It is revealed that increase in mole fraction of gases mixture for Germanium case causes an increase in the value of total heat flux from the bottom surface.

Understanding the capillary effects of liquid droplet interaction with the surface in many industrial processes such as inkjet printers, painting, spraying pesticides, etc. is of critical importance.Droplet impact on substrates has long been a key and popular subject of experimental, numerical and theoretical studies to describe phenomena involved in both nature and many industrial applications. The interest of the droplet impact on viscoelastic surfaces especially is important in many common applications, ranging from pesticide delivery on leaves to spray cooling of flexible surfaces. This study examines the impact of a drop on viscoelastic substrates with various film thicknesses. Droplet dynamic measurements during the impact in the range of Reynolds numbers between 1000 and 16000 and the Weber number to 2600, including those examined in this study. Experimental results show that the effect of substrate softness and thickness is negligible in wetting phase while this effect is significant in dewetting phase.
