In this paper we present the problem of designing a three level hub center network. In our network, the top level consists of a complete network where a direct link is between all central hubs. The second and third levels consist of star networks that connect the hubs to central hubs and the demand nodes to hubs and thus to central hubs, respectively. We model this problem in an incomplete network environment. In this case, the top level is an incomplete network where the direct link between all central hubs is not necessary and may lead to lower transportation costs. We propose mixed integer programming model for these problems and conduct a computational study for these two developed models by using the CAB data.

In this paper, we study different methods of solving joint redundancy-availability optimization for series-parallel systems with multi-state components. We analyzed various effective factors on system availability in order to determine the optimum number and version of components in each sub-system and consider the effects of improving failure rates of each component in each sub-system and improving reliability of each sub-system. The target is to determine optimum values of all variables for improving the availability level and decreasing the total cost of the system. At first, the exact values of variables are determined using a mathematical model; then, the results of SA-Parallel, VDO-Parallel and genetic algorithms are compared with the exact solution.

To use services transparently in a distributed environment, the Utility Grids develop a cyber-infrastructure. The parameters of the Quality of Service such as the allocation-cost and makespan have to be dealt with in order to schedule workflow application tasks in the Utility Grids. Optimization of both target parameters above is a challenge in a distributed environment and may conflict one another. We, therefore, present a novel heuristic algorithm for scheduling a workflow application on Utility Grids. Our proposed algorithm optimizes the allocation-cost and makespan in a scalable and very low runtime. The results of the wide-spread simulation indicate that the proposed algorithm is scalable against an increase in the application size and task parallelism of the application. The proposed algorithm effectively outperforms the current algorithms in terms of the allocation-cost, makespan and runtime scalability.

In this paper, a mixed-integer linearized programming (MINLP) model is presented to design a group layout (GL) of a cellular manufacturing system (CMS) in a dynamic environment with considering production planning (PP) decisions. This model incorporates with an extensive coverage of important manufacturing features used in the design of CMSs. There are also some features that make the presented model different from the previous studies. These include: 1) the variable number of cells, 2) machine depot keeping idle machines, and 3) integration of cell formation (CF), GL and PP decisions in a dynamic environment. The objective is to minimize the total costs (i.e., costs of intra-cell and inter-cell material handling, machine relocation, machine purchase, machine overhead, machine processing, forming cells, outsourcing and inventory holding). Two numerical examples are solved by the GAMS software to illustrate the results obtained by the incorporated features. Since the problem is NP-hard, an efficient simulated annealing (SA) algorithm is developed to solve the presented model. It is then tested using several test problems with different sizes and settings to verify the computational efficiency of the developed algorithm in compare to the GAMS software. The obtained results show that the quality of the solutions obtained by SA is entirely satisfactory in compare to GAMS software based on the objective value and computational time, especially for large-sized problems.

In some statistical process control applications, quality of a process or product can be characterized by a relationship between a response and one or more independent variables, which is typically referred to a profile. In this paper, polynomial profiles are considered to monitor processes in which there is a first order autoregressive relation between the error terms in each profile. A remedial measure is first proposed to eliminate the effect of autocorrelation in phase-ІІ monitoring of autocorrelated profiles. Then, three methods are employed to monitor polynomial profiles where their performances are compared using the average run length criterion.

Appropriate scheduling and sequencing of tasks on machines is one of the basic and significant problems that a shop or a factory manager encounters; this is why in recent decades extensive studies have been done on scheduling issues. One type of scheduling problems is just-in-time (JIT) scheduling and in this area, motivated by JIT manufacturing, this study investigates a mathematical model for appraising a multi-objective programing that minimize total weighted tardiness, earliness and total flowtime with fuzzy parameters on parallel machines, simultaneously with respect to the impact of machine deterioration. Besides, in this paper attempted to present a defuzzification approach and a heuristic method based on genetic algorithm (GA) to solve the proposed model. Finally, several dominant properties of optimal solutions are demonstrated in comparison with the results of a state-of-the-art commercial solver and the simulated annealing method that is followed by illustrating some instances for indicating validity and efficiency of the method.

The primary purpose of this paper is to highlight for the research community and practitioners the various aspects of using VMI-type supply chains in today’s business environment as well as a number of directions for future studies. In this regard, fifty articles published in major international journals, beginning in 1995, which contribute to the VMI-type supply chains are reviewed via a systematic review methodology. Our findings show there is an incremental growth in employing of VMI strategies in logistic and supply chains. This paper characterizes the design aspects required to configure and establish a VMI-type supply chain in the industry including demand pattern, number of products, contract type between two parties, and profit sharing scheme. Moreover, the current gaps on the current state of VMI-type supply chain in literature are highlighted in last section of this paper that may motivate future studies.

Integrated production-distribution planning (PDP) is one of the most important approaches in supply chain networks. We consider a supply chain network (SCN) to consist of multi suppliers, plants, distribution centers (DCs), and retailers. A bi-objective mixed integer linear programming model for integrating production-distribution designed here aim to simultaneously minimize total net costs in supply chain and transfer time of products for retailers. From different terms of evolutionary computations, this paper proposes a Pareto-based meta-heuristic algorithm called multi-objective simulated annealing (MOSA) to solve the problem. To validate the results obtained, a popular algorithm namely non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is utilized as well. Since the solution-quality of proposed meta-heuristic algorithm severely depends on their parameters, the Taguchi method is utilized to calibrate the parameters of the proposed algorithm. Finally, in order to prove the validity of the proposed model, a numerical example is solved and conclusions are discussed.
