VEGF as the most potent mitogen related to endothelial cells is the main factor in the incidence of angiogenesis process. Thus the aim of the present study was to examine the responses of VEGF and serum cortisol to a session of high intensity interval training and to determine the relationship between their serum levels. 11 non-athlete men (mean age 23.80 years) were selected voluntarily and participated in a session of high intensity interval training. Blood samples were collected before, immediately and 2 hours after the training. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measures and Pearson correlation test were used to analyze data. Serum VEGF decreased insignificantly immediately after the training (10.74%) while it increased 2 hours after the training and reached above the rest level (13.20). The serum cortisol decreased immediately and 2 hours after the training and this reduction was significant only in the phase of 2 hours after the training compared with the rest level. There was no significant relationship between VEGF and serum cortisol before, immediately and 2 hours after the training. In general, it can be concluded that a session of high intensity interval training may not have significant effects on serum VEGF levels and on the other hand, it can reduce serum free cortisol hormone.

Different protocols of exercise cause different oxidative status. Regular exercises could act like vaccination and up regulate antioxidant systems in body. So 40 male Wistar rats with body weight (154±2 gr) were divided into two groups: 1) trained (n=20) and 2) untrained groups (n=20) at random. Training group participated in eight weeks training program, 5days per week, consisted of treadmill running that began speed was 8 m/min for 10 min and with gradually increase in speed and time reaching the speed of 30 m/min for 1.5 h/day at 8th week.At the end of 8 week each group further divided in to groups where the rats were studied at rest and after exhaustive exercise. For acute exhaustive exercise graded treadmill running was conducted reaching the speed of 35 m/min and was continued until exhaustion, then animals were anesthetized and blood sample were collected for measurements of catalase activity in red blood cell by Abei method and plasma MDA was estimated by spectrophotometry and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) measured by Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). These results indicated that acute exhaustive exercise increased the MDA level in sedentary but not in trained rat. The catalase activity was elevated significantly in trained group but was unchanged by exhausting exercise and TAC increased in exercise group after exhaustive exercise but decreased in just one session exhaustive group. We conclude that exhaustive exercise induced oxidative stress but endurance training may be useful for preventing acute exhaustive exercise induced oxidative stress by up-regulating antioxidant enzyme activity.

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of two resistance-plyometric and small sided game methods on serum levels Myostatin, Growth and differentiation factor-associated serum protein-1and insulin like growth factor-I in youth soccer players.30 soccer players Gitipasand club who were constantly involved in training and had no history of any serious illness or severe injury, were chosen for available sampling. Thus, they were divided randomly in three groups, SSG (n=8), resistance-plyometric (n=11) and control (n=11). First, height, weight, BMI and VO2max of the subjects were measured. The next day, blood samples from the anterior brachial vein of subjects were taken. The experimental groups participated in their exercise program (8 week, 2 sessions per week plus three current sessions). All variables were measured again after 8 weeks. In order to compare data within groups' Dependent t-test was used and for comparison between groups One-way ANOVA was used by SPSS (v.22). The findings showed that after 8 weeks of SSG training plasma level of IGF-ɪ and GASP-1 increased significantly and in resistance-plyometric group, Myostatin decreased significantly (p<0/005). Reduction of myostatin and increase of other growth factors suggest that the traditional training methods can be replaced by these methods in the pre-season and during the season or maintenance phase. Therefore, in order to clear the effect of these two methods of trainings on growth mediators, more researches are needed.

Aging is characterized by an increase in apoptosis. It seems that aerobic training can reduce the apoptosis. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of aerobic training on apoptosis and growth factors in the old rats’ hearts. 24 male Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups: high intensity training (HIT=8), moderate intensity training (MCT=8) and control (CO=8). After two weeks of adaptation, rats participated in aerobic training for 6 weeks. The rats’ hearts were extracted 48 hours after the last training session. Bax and Bcl-2 gene expressions were analyzed by the Real-Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR). One-way analysis of variance was used for data analysis (P<0.05). The results showed that Bax gene expression in MCT group insignificantly increased (0.261) but in HIT group significantly increased (0.001) compared with the control group. Bcl-2 gene levels in MCT group (0.978) and HIT group (0.278) insignificantly increased compared with the control group. IGF-1 in MCT group (0.175) and HIT group (0.537) increased compared with the control group, but this increase was not significant. According to the results, 6 weeks of training with moderate and high intensity insignificantly increased the expression of Bcl-2 and IGF-1 in elderly rats and significantly increased Bax in high intensity training group and insignificantly increased it in the moderate intensity group.

Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is one of the metabolism hormones which is secreted from different tissues, plays a role in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and improves glucose hemostasis, fat parameters and weight loss. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT) on serum levels of FGF21, lipid profile and insulin resistance in sedentary obese women. 20 sedentary obese women (mean age 30.15±2.96 years and BMI 30.34±1.27 Kg/m2) volunteered to participate in the study and were randomly assigned to HIIT and control groups (each group 10 subjects). HIIT program was conducted for 8 weeks, 3 sessions each week with 90% target heart rate. The research data were analyzed by independent and dependent t tests at P<0.05. The results of the statistical analysis showed that HIIT program significantly increased serum levels of FGF21 and HLD-C (P<0.05) and significantly decreased insulin resistance, glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, triglyceride and CO/HDL in sedentary obese women. Also, the results of independent t test showed a significant difference between HIIT and control groups in FGF21 and glucose levels (P<0.05). According to the results of this study, it seems that high intensity interval training (HIIT) may play an influential role in glucose hemostasis, decreasing fat mass, and increasing energy expenditure through an increase in FGF21 levels and therefore may be considered to prevent obesity and improve  insulin resistance marker.

The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of high and medium intensity interval training on plasma levels of Orexin-A, lipid profile and cardiorespiratory endurance of overweight and obese women. 24 women (age range 25-45 years) volunteered and were non-randomly divided into HIIT (n=9, BMI= 29.61±3.45 kg.m2), MIIT (n=8, BMI= 28.19±3.83 kg.m2) and control (n=7, BMI=29.18±4.71 kg.m2) groups. The HIIT protocol was conducted with %75-90 of maximum HR and MIIT protocol with %60-80 of maximal HR for 8 weeks and 3 sessions per week. The findings showed a significant reduction in total cholesterol level and a significant increase in cardiorespiratory endurance of the training groups (P≤0.05). On the other hand, plasma Orexin levels increased and changed and triglyceride, LDL and body fat percent decreased in training groups compared with the control group, but these changes were not statistically significant (P≥0.05). Also, the HDL levels increased in HIIT group while they decreased in MIIT group; these changes were not statistically significant in any of the groups (P≥0.05). It seems that the interval training with different intensities increased Orexin plasma levels and improved some markers of lipid profile, body fat percent and cardiorespiratory endurance in overweight and obese women, but this improvement was more sensible in HIIT group.

Sprint interval training (SIT) includes repeated bouts of maximal intensity less than 30 seconds, which can improve fat oxidation rate post exercise recovery. Therefore, this study compared the effect of two sprint interval training protocols on fat oxidation rate in recovery in active women. 10 active women (mean age, 23.8 ± 2.82 years, weight, 57.2 ± 6.97 kg) voluntarily participated in this study. Participants completed 2 SIT protocols in a cross-over design with a 6-day interval: the first protocol (24 × 5-sec. bouts, 40-sec. recovery) and the second protocol (4 × 30-sec. bouts, 240-sec. recovery). Protocols matched for the duration of work (2 min.) and recovery (16 min.), as well as the work/recovery ratio (1:8). Energy expenditure (EE) and fat oxidation rate in recovery were calculated by gas exchange collected during 90 minutes. Results showed that fat oxidation was significantly lower during recovery 5:40 (0.082 g/min.) than training 30:240 (0.098 g/min.) (P<0.05). But, EE during training (160.11 kcal) and EE during recovery (100.31 kcal) were significantly higher than EE during training 30:240 (127.48 kcal) and EE during recovery 30:240 (88.26 kcal) (P<0.05). The present results showed that despite the higher EE during training 5:40 compared with training 30:240, SIT with longer work/recovery ratio had a greater effect on using fat during recovery after training.
