Page 1This paper is a follow-up to our recent literature review of outcomes with immediate molar implants and summarizes considerations used by various highly experienced clinical investigators to achieve acceptable survival rates. The surgeons skills and experience, proper case selection and specific modifications in osteotomy preparation all are crucial in avoiding intra- and extra-operative complications and implant failure. Keywords: Immediate, molar implant, guidelines

Clinical evaluation of the effect of allograft alone or in combination with simvastatin gel in the treatment of mandibular class II furcation defects in humansPage 2BackgroundSimvastatin has been found to cause increased bone formation in vitro and in animal studies. However, its effect on periodontal reconstruction in humans is yet to be determined. This study evaluated the effects of a combination of simvastatin drug with demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) and compared the efficacy of this combination with that of DFDBA alone in the treatment of human periodontal defects.MethodsFifteen patients with almost identical bilateral 2-walled or 3-walled infrabony defects were selected. Defects on the right side (Group A) were treated with the placement of DFDBA alone while those on the left side (Group B) were treated using a combination of DFDBA and a 10-8 M solution of simvastatin. Two clinical parameters, probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level, and one radiographic parameter, namely infrabony defect depth, were measured preoperatively and 12 and 24 weeks postoperatively.ResultsThe overall percentage of satisfaction with the software was 90%. Moreover, 86.66% of the respondents pre-ferred digital dental records to conventional records. Satisfaction in the reduced time of information registration and the advanced search options and availability of voice commands were 84% and 100%, respectively.ConclusionCombination of DFDBA with a solution of simvastatin led to significantly greater reduction in probing depth, gain in clinical attachment level and linear defect fill than when the graft was used alone in the treatment of human periodontal furcation defects.

Page 3BackgroundHerbal mouthwashes nowadays are gaining popularity because they contain naturally occurring ingredi-ents that achieve the desired antimicrobial and antiinflammatory effects. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of a commercially available herbal mouthwash (HiOra) with that of an essential oil-containing mouthwash, Listerine.MethodsA single-blind cross-over study was conducted on 30 dental students aged 18‒25 years. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups: A and B (n=15) and the study was divided into two phases. In phase 1, Listerine mouthwash was given to group A and HiOra mouthwash to group B. The plaque score was recorded with Turesky modification of the QuigleyHein plaque index consecutively for 10 days. After 15 days of wash-out period, in phase 2 both groups were given the other mouthwash.ResultsThe plaque scores were compared and the difference between the HiOra and Listerine mouthwash was deter-mined using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The differences between plaque scores were statistically insignificant (P>0.05). The results showed that HiOra and Listerine mouthwashes yielded comparable results in plaque reduction.ConclusionHerbal mouthwash was found to be a potent plaque inhibitor, yielding results comparable to those of Listerine mouthwash. These formulations may be more appealing because they do not contain alcohol, artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. Keywords: Dental plaque, gingivitis, herbal, essential oil, mouthwash

Page 4Gingival recession is defined as displacement of gingival margin apical to cementoenamel junction. Over the years gingival recession has been treated by a number of surgical techniques. Conventional mucogingival procedures such as the laterally positioned flap, free gingival graft, connective tissue graft and coronally positioned flap have been shown to be relatively successful in achieving root coverage. Gingival tissue regeneration (GTR) based root coverage has emerged as an alternative treatment because it demonstrates histologically new attachment formation. The aim of this study was to compare coronally positioned flap procedures in gingival recession defects with or without using a collagen barrier membrane.

Page 5Periodontitis is the most common, destructive, inflammatory diseases of supporting tissues of the teeth in humans, with profound effects on general health. Aggressive periodontitis (AgP) comprises a rare, rapidly progressing form of periodontitis, characterized by severe destruction of periodontal attachment apparatus and tooth loss at an early age. Considering the psychological problems which these patients have during the early stages of their life, the chief aim of the treatment is to achieve functional, esthetic, and phonetic rehabilitation. Dental implant is a widely used treatment option that provides functional and esthetic resolution. Implant placement in patients with a history of AP might be considered a viable option to restore oral function; however, the risk for implant failure is significantly higher. This report presents rehabilitation of lower anterior teeth with implant therapy in a 24-year-old systemically healthy male with a history of localized AP, who had previously received complete periodontal therapy for periodontal stabilization. Keywords: Aggressive periodontitis, dental implants, periodontal diseases, periodontitis
