Page 3The sprays produced by an induction two-fluid nozzle are utilized to study the attraction and deposition patterns of charged liquid droplets on earthed metal targets. The targets used have different geometries, including rectangular, triangular and circular flat plates, in addition to two spherical metal objects. The flat targets have adapted to study the interactive role of sharp corner points and edges on a target, while the spherical targets mainly possess smooth surfaces without any geometrical discontinuity. It is theoretically shown that the spray relative deposition on a target is proportional to the ratio of the target induced current to the spray electric current. This finding has led to the design of an experimental setup capable of measuring the aforementioned electric currents simultaneously with variations in the nozzle characteristic parameters, and is also employed to investigate the attraction and deposition phenomena in the target proximity. The experimental setup used to have a two-fluid nozzle operation, also consisting of three major parts, including compressed air, liquid feed and high voltage lines, which also provided a basis for the control and monitoring of the running parameters. The results show that although the vertical distance between the spray and the targets has no effect on the nozzle hydraulic performance, a decrease in the distance relatively improves the spray charging efficiency, further to inducing a higher rate of electric charge on a target surface. The target geometry, in addition to enhancing the spray charging, has a significant effect on the target induced current when there are sharp points and edges on the target surface. This role confirms the creation of an intense electric field in the target proximity, which induces a higher rate of electric charge on the target surface, in addition to moderately affecting the spray charging mechanism upstream within the nozzle. The pictures taken of the charged sprays clearly show an attractive pattern of charged drops established in the vicinity of a target, demonstrating the creation of a wrap around feature, whereas the uncharged sprays have no interaction with the target. This pattern also approves the dominance of the attractive electric force field on the spray aerodynamic driving force within the target vicinity, illustrating the advantageous role of charged sprays over uncharged sprays where the spray deposition enhancement is a main goal. Keywords: liquid spray, electrical induction, charged drops, two, fluid nozzle, deposition

Page 15Nowadays, the energy crisis has become a real problem, so, peoples are looking for higher efficiency, and purer devices and systems to recover energy. The magnetic refrigeration system is a new technology; It based on the change of entropy invoked by the application of an external magnetic field on a paramagnetic or magnetic material. The recent achievements regarding magnetic refrigeration, especially near room temperature regions, largely rest upon the active magnetic regenerator (AMR) concept. The AMR cycle comprises four processes. During magnetization, the magnetic field is applied to the ferromagnetic refrigerant, resulting in an increase of its initial temperature due to the MCE. Maintaining the field, fluid flow regenerates the solid and rejects the MCE heat towards a warm sink. Next, the field is deactivated, resulting in a temperature drop of the solid refrigerant induced by the MCE. Because of the preceding regeneration process, the solid temperature is now lower than at the start of the cycle. Finally, fluid flows in the opposite direction regenerating the solid and allowing heat addition from a cold source. In this paper, a practical model for predicting the performance and efficiency of a bed of active magnetic regenerative refrigerators has been presented. The heat transfer fluid, driven by a pump, flows through the regenerator, which is a porous or multi tube magnetic media. For simplification, solid and fluid parts of the bed have been assumed to be two adjacent separated layers. Consequently, one dimensional relations consisting of two coupled energy equations are derived. Discretized equations have been solved by iteration. Ultimately, temperature distributions over each media and for different moments of the cycle time are obtained. By this model, other refrigeration system parameters, such as coefficients of performance and cooling capacity, have been predicted. The numerical results have been compared with preexistent limited experimental and other theoretical reports. Also, an investigation into the performance of a porous bed and a multi tube bed structure has been done and the results have been presented. Keywords: magnetic refrigeration, magnetic field, porous bed, multi tube bed, temperature distributions, COP

Page 27Concentric annular pipe flow with rotation of the inner wall is often used in engineering applications, such as chemical mixing devices, turbo machinery, bearings, rotating tube heat exchangers and the drilling of oil wells. In addition to the practical implications of achieving a better understanding of this type of flow, the study of turbulent rotating flows in concentric cylinders provides insight into the general problem of three dimensional turbulent boundary layers. Several experimental and numerical investigations hae examined rotating flows in concentric cylinders. In this paper, velocity and temperature fields of concentric cylinders with rotation of the inner wall have been investigated numerically. Air enters the gap between the cylinders and attains full development in both velocity and temperature fields after certain lengths. Adiabatic and constant heat flux boundary conditions have been applied and the Nusselt number was calculated. In order to analyze the variations of velocity and temperature fields, different angular velocities at constant axial Reynolds number and different axial velocities at constant angular velocity have been investigated. The turbulent stresses were approximated with the model. Results show that for high values of angular velocity, Nusselt number increases at the outer wall and, also, by increasing the axial Reynolds number, the temperature decreases on the inner and outer wall. In the present study, it is assumed that the fluid is incompressible and Newtonian with temperature-independent fluid properties. Results show that the inner wall rotation in turbulent annular flow produces significant effects on velocity and temperature fields, as well as on heat transfer rate. The results also indicate that if the rotational speed of the inner cylinder increases, the outer cylinder heat transfer coefficient will increase, due to a decrease in the boundary layer thickness at the outer wall. Keywords: concentric cylinders, taylor number, nusselt number, turbulent flow, angular velocity

Page 35In recent years, requirement to increase projectile performance has led to a great interest in high angle of attack aerodynamics. Projectile maneuverability is a concept which is defined by having the capability to perform at high angles of attack while maintaining attached flow over the tail, rather than the capability of performing a mission in minimum possible time. Interactions between body, wing and tail vortices can delay vortex breakdown over the wing and, as a result may, enhance projectile maneuverability. Studies showed that wing aspect ratio and tail location have a remarkable influence on the vortices, and their interactions, hence, on projectile maneuverability. In the present study, a series of experiments are carried out on a body-wing-tail configuration to investigate their interferences. A projectile model was designed with the capabilities of placing a horizontal tail at various locations and installing wings with different aspect ratios. A six-component balance was used to measure aerodynamic forces and moments. Flow visualization was performed to gain insight into the corresponding flow field. Results show that reducing wing and tail distances, increases lift and decreases drag at high angles of attack. Keywords: tail control projectile, delta wing, vortex interaction, vortical flow

Page 45In the present study, numerical simulation of a turbulent flow and forced convection heat transfer in a pipe partially filled with porous inserts is presented. For this purpose, two arrangements of the porous inserts are considered: (i) cylindrical porous material is inserted in a central arrangement, (ii) an annuli is inserted in the boundary arrangement. Effects of several parameters, such as: porosity, Darcy number, and porous insert thickness on velocity profile, pressure drop and heat transfer are investigated. The obtained results indicate that for Darcy numbers $2times 10^{-4}$,$5times 10^{-4}$, and $10^{-3}$ the certain relative thickness of the porous material at which the heat transfer is maximum at the central arrangement are: 0.9, 0.85, and 0.8, respectively, while, for the boundary arrangement, the maximum value of heat transfer takes place in the whole porous pipe. For Darcy numbers $2times 10^{-4}$, $5times 10^{-4}$, and $10^{-3}$, the certain relative thicknesses of the porous material at which heat transfer is minimum are 0.6, 0.55, and 0.5, respectively. A comparison of the obtained results of the turbulent flow with laminar flow shows that there is more significant variations of corresponding values of the optimum relative thickness, with respect to Darcy number, in the turbulent regime. For the boundary arrangement, minimum heat transfer is achieved at lower relative thicknesses and relative thickness variations are not linear, in comparison with laminar flow. Keywords: forced convection, porous medium, darcy number, turbulence, optimum heat transfer

Page 53This paper investigates the static response of thin-walled semi-spherical steel under axial loading. The influence of geometrical and loading parameters on the static response is investigated experimentally and numerically. Results are quantified in terms of mean collapse load. Mean collapse load is calculated by dividing the area under the load-displacement curve into displacement of the upper rigid plate. In this paper, the effect of shell diameter, thickness, cutout and shell height was investigated and it has been concluded that, by increasing cutout size, the mean collapse load decreases. Also, the load-deformation curves do not change by decreasing the height of semi-spherical shells. Also, in this paper, the effects of loading parameters are studied. Shells are loaded by rigid plate, rigid bar, rigid tube and rigid plate with a hole, and it is resulted that the shell can tolerate a greater mean collapse load when loaded by a rigid plate in comparison with a rigid bar.The primary outcome of this study is new design information on the energy absorption performance of thin-walled semi-spherical steel, which will facilitate the development of the design guidance of such shells as energy absorbers under various loading. The numerical analysis was carried out using ABAQUS software and the experimental tests were performed using an Instron 8802 servo-hydraulic machine. The numerical and experimental results are very close together and, therefore, the numerical results are valid. Keywords: buckling, mean collapse load, semi, spherical thin walled shells, absorption energy

Page 67In recent years, there has been growing interest in the use of floor heating systems because of their onsiderable advantages, such as being energy-saving and a comfortable thermal environment. In these systems, a significant part of heat energy is transmitted in radiant mode. Therefore, the human body thermal conditions can be considerably influenced by changing the body posture and the view factor between the heated floor and the human body. On the other hand, in most eastern countries, people traditionally tend to directly sit or sleep on the floor. Moreover, floor heating and other air-conditioning systems are commonly designed based on the thermal neutrality of sedentary occupants. This can impose some limitations on the use of floor heating systems for people with such eastern lifestyles. In this paper, investigations are made to discover whether floor heating systems are convenient for persons who tend to sleep traditionally on the floor, and how the thermal and physiological responses of the human body are affected under the mentioned conditions. In this study, a new model has been developed to predict the sensation of sleeping occupants on the floor heating systems. This model is based on the well-known Fanger's thermal comfort model. Fanger developed his model in 1970, using an energy balance equation for the human body. But, it should be noted that Fanger's model has not exclusively been developed for thermal sleeping conditions. Nevertheless, the body's thermal condition during sleep is distinctly different from that under sedentary conditions, because of a decrease in the metabolic rate, an increase in the portion of conductive heat transfer and, also, an increase in thermal resistance between the body and the environment. Therefore, in the present study, a new thermal comfort model has been developed by considering the thermal sleeping conditions of the human body. Using this thermal comfort model, the thermal sensation of occupants under traditional sleeping conditions has been compared with that of occupants of conventional beds. Results indicate that the thermal sensation of sleeping occupants is significantly dependent upon blanket insulation. Additionally, the calculations show that the thermal comfort conditions of sleeping occupants on floor heating systems are only satisfied in the narrow range of blanket insulation (0.2 clo - 1.75 clo), whereas the proper range of blanket insulation for persons sleeping on conventional beds is 0.65 clo - 3.7 clo. Keywords: floor heating system, thermal comfort, sleeping conditions

Page 75As the application of 3-dimensional braided composites is becoming more common, many models have been developed to analyze their mechanical properties. Although much research work has been done, no theoretically perfect method has been successfully applied to the prediction of stiffness and strength parameters for three dimensional braided composites. The present paper represents a new analytical method for calculation of the stiffness of three-dimensional four-directional braided composites. In most previous work, the analytical model had been largely neglected in favor of the finite element model. Among those who have used the analytical model, the braided pre-form has been considered as being made of one or three types of representative unit cell, while microscopic evidence of the microstructure of pre-forms reveals different configurations of the yarns in the interior, surface and corner regions of a braided pre-form. This paper presents a multi-unit cell model, in which four types of unit cell, namely; interior, interior surface, exterior surface and corner unit, have been introduced as representative cells. Each type of unit cell in a braided composite has different micro-structural parameters and possesses unique mechanical properties. In this model, each type of unit cell has been onsidered as a uni-directional composite. Next, using rotation matrices, the angle between yarns and longitudinal direction has been considered in general coordinates of the model. Finally, using a volume averaging method, the total stiffness of the braided composite is calculated. The obtained results were compared with experimental results. Finally, after evaluation of analytical methods and their comparison with experimental methods, the relationships between different braid angles and longitudinal and transverse stiffness, longitudinal and transverse shear stiffness and longitudinal and transverse Poisson ratios were predicted. It was shown that they are affected by changes in the braided angle. Keywords: 3, dimensional four, directional braided composites, stiffness calculation, analytical method, multi unit cell model

Page 83A mechanical system is called a ``walker'' if it has multiple contact points with the ground, with which they regularly connect and disconnect to obtain a displacement of the whole body. The major problem of the walker system is balance maintenance. When the system has two feet, balance maintenance would be more complicated. A humanoid robot is one example of bipedal systems. So far, many studies have been carried out on the balance maintenance of humanoids, and different criteria have been presented, such as; Center Of Gravity (COG) and Zero Moment Point (ZMP). The main condition of balance is placing the COG or ZMP in a specific area called the stability region. In some studies, the stability region has been stated as being a convex hull of the contact points of the feet. In this method, a polygon with minimum sides is specified as the stability region, which contains all the contact points. In other studies, the stability region has been defined as a maximum polygon, which contains the soles. Also, in other studies, the stability region has been obtained using equations of motion. In these studies, the stability region has been considered an obvious subject or has been presented complicatedly. In this paper, a new and simple method is presented to obtain the stability region. At first, the equations of equilibrium for a humanoid robot are considered to obtain the main relation for description of the stability region. Also, the contact forces are calculated using the Coulomb friction. Then, the stability region for the general position of the legs is achieved. In order to evaluate the obtained stability region, the kinematical parameters of a humanoid robot are considered using a simulated model in Visual Nastran software.
