Olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae Rossi, is a key pest of olive on olive-growing areas in the world including, Iran. This monophagous pest was reported in 2004 in olive-growing areas of North of Iran, causing serious damage. Its damage results in reduction of yield quality and quantity. Deployment of resistant varieties and detecting resistance mechanisms can be useful in management programms of this pest. As treditional farmers do not apply cultural or chemical methods to control this pest, deploying resistant varieties will be more acceptable by farmers. In this research, 10 promising olive varieties in Roudbar Olive Research Station (Guilan province) were studied in order to determine the infestation rate of olive fruit fly and chemical compounds of olive drupes (‘Arbequina’, ‘Manzanilla’, ‘Leccino’, ‘Zard’, ‘ Konservalia’, ‘Amigdalifolia’, ‘Kalamata’, ‘Roghani’, ‘ Mari’ and ‘Fishomi’). ‘Arbequina’ and ‘Kalamata’ varieties can be considered in developing olive varieties, due to low rate of yearly infestation (8 to 11%). There was no correlation between infestation rate and either morphological traits and chemical compounds in olive oil. However, oleuropein can be considered as one of the resistance factors to olive fruit fly.

Fauna of cheyletid mites (Cheyletidae) in central part of Guilan Province, northern Iran, was studied during 2016-2017. The abundance and dominant indices of collected species were also evaluated in five habitats including stored rice products, decayed plant material, plant leaf, soil and livestock and poultry manure. In this research, totally 19 species belong to 8 genera and 5 tribes were collected and identified. An identification key to genera and species of cheyletid mites in Guilan Province is provided. Stored rice products with 73.02% has the highest abundance of mites among habitats, subsequently, decayed plant material (12.82%), livestock and poultry manure (6.1%), and leaf (4.41%) were in second to fourth ranks. The lowest relative abundance was observed in soil (3.64%). In comparison the frequency of species in different habitats, the highest percentage of abundance in livestock and poultry manure was due to Cheyletus malaccensis Oudemans (59.7%). Cheyletus malaccensis, Cheyletus carnifex Zachvatkin and Cheyletus eruditus (Schrank) with 41.77%, 23.59% and 19.72%, abundance respectively, have the most relative abundance among the total collected species. Based on the Simpson dominance index, the highest species dominance was due to soil (lowest diversity) and the lowest dominance was in livestock and poultry manure (the most diversity). In the Burger-Parker dominance method based on species abundance, Cheyletus malaccensis had the highest dominance in livestock and poultry manure and the lowest dominance in the soil.

Tuta absoluta is a new pest which after its entry to the country and fast and wide distribution became one of the most damaging agents of tomato especially in open fields. Finding its activity period in the field and the most suitable types and ways for the use of pheromone traps as a monitoring tool, are necessary to make management decisions. So, in this study, at first the most effective type and height of pheromone trap in a factorial experiment and then the best location in the field, were determined. First factor was the trap types which were delta, water pan and ferolite. Second factor was trap height and included ground, 50 cm and 2m up the ground. Both experiments were done in randomized block designs with 4 replicates in a tomato field in Jiroft. In another experiment and in a tomato field in Qazvin, the leaf miner´s generations and its activity period were determined by the method of degree day using a Testo set and a delta pheromone trap. Results showed that the delta pheromone trap on 50 cm up to the ground and 20m far from the field margin had the highest effectiveness. Also it was revealed that T. absoluta emerged in the middle of growing season and its population density increased gradually and it had 4 generations in a year.

The green lacewing Chrysoperla carnea is one of the natural enemies, which attacks various pests on crops and orchards. Feeding preference of natural enemies is one of the most important criteria used in evaluation of their efficiency. In this research, feeding preferences and switching of the second and third instar larvae of C. carnea were studied on the citrus aphid, Aphis spiraecola and the melon aphid, Aphis gossypii. The experiments were carried out on orange leaves in a growth chamber at 27±2°C, 65±5% RH and a photoperiod of 16L: 8D h. The results showed that when A. spiraecola or A. gossypii were separately offered to the second and third instar larvae of predator, the predation rate was higher on A. gossypii compared to A. spiraecola. Providing different combinations of A. gossypii: A. spiraecola significantly affected the consumption of C. carnea larvae in switching experiment. In different combinations, the consumption of the second and third instar larvae of the predator varied from 7.90 to 21.10 and from 15.70 to 31.00 on A. spiraecola, and from 14.60 to 29.60 and from 24.50 to 38.20 on A. gossypii, respectively. The values of Manly’s preference index in equal ratios of A. gossypii: A. spiraecola were calculated 0.632:0.368 and 0.647:0.353 for second and third larval instars, respectively, showing the preference of the larvae to A. gossypii. The results of the present study showed that the types

Cold storage is a general technique to long-term preservation of wasp parasitoid, Bracon hebetor in insectaries. The aim of this study was to investigate effects of honey solution concentration (5, 20 and 40%) and feeding duration (24, 48 and 72 hours) on the biological and reproductive characteristics of this parasitoidin both cold-stored and not-stored conditions. Adult parasitoids collected immediately after emergence and stored inside a refrigerator (5±1˚C) for 7 days, and mortality, longevity, fecundity and parasitism ability were subsequently assessed. In unstored populations, parasitoid longevity, fecundity and parasitism ability increased by sugar concentration and reached to their peaks in 40% honey solution (17.8±1.4 days, 230.3±12.1 eggs/female and 140.3±8.6 host larvae/ female, respectively). Moreover, sugar concentration and feeding duration significantly affected cold stored parasitoids quality. Adults feeding on high concentration of honey solution (40%), increased significantly their cold tolerance and longevity and fecundity after cold storage. 24-hour feeding on 40% honey solution before cold storage was the best treatment to keep parasitoid quality during cold storage. In this case, female longevity, fecundity and parasitism ability were estimated 22.9±2.1 days, 330.9±46.4 eggs/female and 173.3±18.1 host larvae/female, respectively. In conclusion, it seems that feeding wasps with a 40% honey solution for 24 hours before cold storage could be recommended to increase cold tolerance of adult B. hebetor.

Sunn pest, Eurygaster integriceps Puton is a key pest of wheat and barley fields that lead to use chemical control against the overwintered adults in wheat fields. Hence, to control this pest, two commercial insecticides, Deltamethrin EC 2.5% and Fenitrothion EC 50%, were used relatively for a long time. In this research, the efficiencies of lambda cyhalothrin SC 5% (Hef-Lambda ®), as a new insecticide, were compared with two mentioned insecticides against overwintered adults in wheat fields of three provinces, Isfahan, Lorestan and Kermanshah. Comparison were done in a randomized complete block design with threeconcentration ofHef-Lambda (200, 150 and 100 ml/ha), along with concentrations commonly used for Fenitrothion,Deltamethrin (1000 ml/ha and 300 ml/ha respectively) and control with four replications. The results showed that the efficiencies of Hef-Lambda (in two concentrations 200 and 150 ml/ha) and Fenitrothion and Deltamethrin on the 10th day after treatment were higher than 90% and there was no significant difference between them. So that average mortality for those treatments in overwintered adults were 91.79, 97.64, 96.72 and 91.75% respectively. In contrast, Hef-Lambda 100 ml /ha, with the 74.07% efficiency, was in the next group. According to the results, Hef-Lambda has a good efficiency against this pest in field conditions and can be used as an alternative insecticide compare with the two mentioned insecticides, in order to reduce the possibility of resistance in Sun pest against insecticides. As the final result recommended concentration of Hef-Lambda for control of Sun pest is 150 ml/ha, in order to getting an acceptable efficiency and a low risk of contamination for environment.
