RADIO is an audio media in which language plays a major role. Language is the main element in a radio drama. Audio elements in radio drama has the essence of drama and language among these elements, has a very important and special seat. What an audience takes as gender, is just a performer speaking voice. This feature helps the performer to play out of his/her own gender by only switching/imitating voice. But voice is not the only way to discover the gender, the manner of talking and feelings of the performer are also good detectors for audience to discover the gender. Thus, if we want to know the” action” and thoughts of a character, it’s important to know his/her gender through his/her speech. Establishing a good relation between audiences and the media is the core that would happen with language and the acceptability level of performer’s speaking manner. Language is social phenomena and a social structure pattern. People use their language not just to reveal their ideas or emotions but to describe their relation to get their identification. Thus, it is in a radio drama that “gendered language” can show its importance. Linguistics of gender is a well-known concept in linguistics. It has been examined widely to gain varied theories about linguistic manner of male and female which is used consciously or unconsciously in our daily life among the wide range of people. Gendered language governs the language of both sexes and we are witnessing its intentional or unintentional use in our life, in a way if people avoid it, others will notice or may be offended. ”gender” differs “sex”. Gender is a package of behaviors, roles, acts and social thoughts that prevailing culture in every society dictates to both male and female sexes. Gendered language is a language property that makes phonetic and semantic diversity based on what social culture dictates to male and female. Regarding this, knowing the “action” and thoughts of characters should be based on knowing appropriate utterance of the gender in a drama. In the following research after studying the “gendered language” features, we will dig its uses in radio dramas to clarify its influence on creating “action” and “characterization” in a dramatic work. At the end what we will conclude, helps us with “dialogue scripts” to make them in proportion with “character’s gender” and achieving to a “dramatic characterization”. Regarding the theoretical Foundation of the research (gender pattern) and after qualitative analysis of the content of 10 performed radio drama on RADIO JAVAN channel during 80th, we found out that gendered language has different features for male and female. These features are listed in five categories of time, manner, kind, shape and title of speech. It will also be known that using gendered language leads to creating “character” and “act”. Gendered language nurtures characters and displays acts by two contradictory equivalent forces.

As evident in the available set of documents, puppet shows have a long history in Iran. However, due to the non-scriptable nature of this type of art, there are not sufficient records of the backgrounds available to facilitate further, more substantial research work. Any reference to a given performance of the type in history books, travel literature, menologies or fictions could serve as a splendid opportunity for scholars. The present article is an attempt to analyze the elements of this style, and to cast light on the sociocultural context of Iran which contributed to the formations of this style and its attributes. To this end, the author has made use of one of the two written accounts of the puppet shows in Tehran dating back to a century ago, compiled by the renowned scholar in the Iranian studies, Roman Andreevich Galunov, which are considered to be the oldest known records of the type. In an analysis of Galunov’s script, the elements incorporated in the show including the plot, number of puppet characters, the relationship between the characters, linguistic features, musical aspects, and the songs and dance fused into the performance were extracted and compared to more recent, and more exquisite elements of marionette shows to provide a prospective of the performance of this theatrical genre. The study and analysis of the evolution of such performances in the course of the past century, coupled with an examination of the influential social backdrops can act as an overture to the study of other waning dramatic forms aiming at their recognition, retrieving and revival.

The ritual of lion is one of the rituals of Ashura which is widely performed in some parts of Iran, especially central Iran, such as Yazd and Shiraz. In the ritual of lion that is performed during the mourning of Imam Hussein, a person wearing a dress and mask in the form of a lion, performs movements and voices among Hossein’s mourners, symbolically mourning for Imam Hossein. This anthropological study describes this ritual in the region of South Sabzevar. In this regard, different versions of lion ritual of Ashura in Sabzevar are referred to and investigated. This review, with a synchronic approach inspired by Victor Turner’s theoretical discussion of ritual symbols, addresses the analysis of the ritual in question. The results of this ethnographic study show that the ritual symbol of lion is as a symbol of semantic condensation. This semantic condensation in a polarization of meaning in a range of sensory and normative issues serves the presentation of Imam’s cultural image in the studied society. This cultural image can be illustrated through concept of massive oppressed. Such a picture of Imam is a kind of Shiite worldview and theology in which the Imam is at the head of the pyramid and in the the pre-God stage; therefore, all forms of being are in its service and in control of it. Such a theology at its lower levels shows some of the cultural values of society.

Media by its specific codes not only offers the culture to the audience but also actively gives meaning to culture. Cultural products, particularly movies have an ideology that is what the historical and cultural creation, show natural. Representation of women and men in the media, is an important subject and because this representation is often filled with gender stereotypes, this issue has become even more important. In this paper, we have tried to interpret gender stereotypes in the two movies of “Snow on the Pines (2012) and “A Sugar Cube” (2011). John Fisk’ theory of semiology is used to explain three levels of encoding. The results show that the Snow on Pine belongs to the upper middle class with a clear lack of gender stereotypes and A Sugar Cube belongs to lower middle classes with obvious gender stereotypes. Decoding of this syntagmatic relationship shows that movies with obvious gender codes have happy families in them and films that have a positive approach to women in contrast, depict torn-apart families. So the audience is convinced that the existence of such stereotypes is essential for a happy family.

In the wake of anthropocentric thinking of Descartes, human and the world surrounding him or her, divided into two separate component. Highlighting the optic phase of contemporary environment, this separation become more obvious. Lots of phenomenologists like Merleau-Ponty try removing this separation, he considers the body as a primary factor in defining space. A phenomenological approach to the cinematic experience focuses neither solely on the formal and narrative features of the film itself, nor solely on the Spectator’s psychic identification with characters or cognitive interpretation of the film. Instead, phenomenological film analysis approaches the film and the viewer as acting together, correlationally, along an axis that would itself constitute the object of study. Phenomenological approaches to film are useful in that, rather than strictly opposing approaches based on optical vision, distance, and ‘the gaze’, they complement existing theories. From a phenomenological perspective, it is the body with its expressive and perceptive qualities that constitutes the necessary condition for looking, identification, emotions, and pleasure. Film phenomenology has appeared again in two approaches after a long gap that has been set through beginning semiology in film studies, the first approach is relied on Husserl’s phenomenology and the second is relied on Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology and his embodiment perception. We follow the second approach in this paper and focuse on Vivian Sobchak’s theories that is abstracted and relied on Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of perception. In Sobchak’s theory a film is experienced and understood for what it is: a visible and centered visual activity coming into being in significant relation to the objects, the world, and the others it intentionally takes up and expresses in embodied vision. Sobchack established his studies based on three model that helps us in figuring out the body of film. Our purpose in this paper is recognizing and analyzing the film body in Abbas Kiarostami’s cinema. This research has a qualitative approach and with the philosophical framework of phenomenology beside that, help of the research model abstracted from theoretical foundations tries to recognize and analyze film body and embodiment perception of it in Kiarostami’s cinema. On the whole, the research showed that the film body in Kiarostami’s cinema is so similar to human body in perceiving and expressing the surrounded environment. As Kiarostami’s ideology and theory in minimalizing and even eliminating any unnecessary objects from his films, he tries to eliminate any unnecessary objects in fusion of film and human body. As we have reached in the third model of Vivian Sobchak’s theories about film body, the camera and the hermeneutic opaque relation of human body is so essential in analyzing and recognizing film body. Our research shows that the third model is the best model for analyzing the film body in Kiarostami’s cinema. As we have pointed out the body of film in his cinema acts like the human body and the fusion of them is undeniable. The subjective angle of his camera and multi sensational space of his movies are vital component in fusion of film and human body.

Nowadays, media has become an essential part of modern life which can act as a bilateral intermediator between government and people; as a result they play a major role in creation or deterioration of social cohesion and solidarity. Modern communication technologies and media have also led to development of cultural products. The mass production of films and animations which are a part of cultural industries is a direct result of the technological advancement in the communication facilities. Currently, the countries that enjoy potential media facilities often plan to use mostly from their cultural ability for reaching political goals internally, and diplomatic ones at the international level. Soft power can be described as the ability to influence the behavior of the subject of the state to achieve political goals through positively impact on public opinion by using intangible resources of power such as culture and ideology. Subsequently, the concept of soft power is applied in contrast to the hard power.Recently, in Iran, the concept of soft power has been vastly debated both in political and academic circles. This line of arguments has mainly been related to national and security concerns regarding the methods of dealing with cultural invasion and soft war.Iranian government believes that the cultural invasion against Iran is aimed to make people lose their belief in Islam and revolution in order to promote division and discord in the society based on the doctrine of separation of religion from politics. As a result the danger of the soft war is considered the same as the military war. These considerations have put the cultural issues at the center of current debates regarding the security concerns of the government.Holding a series of conferences and symposiums to gather various groups of artists and cultural scholars was a natural response to the certain aspects of the necessity for utilizing the intellectual capital of the country. In his regard, the conference of National Power in the Mirror of Performing Arts with the focus on three art forms of theatre, cinema and animation, which was held in June 2014 at Tehran, was an effort to create an active discourse between Iranian cultural theoreticians and executive agents of the state. The purpose of the conference was to investigate the role of performing arts in achieving soft power and to study the proposed strategies in order to use the power of these media for promoting Iranian cultural image in a creative and non-propaganda manner. At this conference, media of animation was studied as a powerful creative tool that can be utilized for the purpose of shaping national identity and cultural cultivation of young generation.Accordingly, the aim of this article is to investigate the specifications and requirements which are needed for the Iranian animation industry to evolve into an innovative and cultural industryby studying the fundamental basis of policy making in the field of animation, and to answer to these questions that how the industry can develop into national capital that can effectively constitute state power.

Maqam Music is the latest form and of greatest conceptual importance among Iraqi Kurds. The notion comes and is defined in different versions across Middle East nations. It has, indeed, been represented in a variety of forms depending on historical eras and geographical contexts. In some periods, it has served as the most significant, most common and most fundamental musical concept across the Muslim world. As members of that Middle East community, Kurds have been no exception with regard to employing the concept of Maqam Music. In fact, among Iraqi Kurds, Maqam is considered as the most recent musical genre and concept. The present paper is in a way the first of its kind to have made a serious effort to dig in the roots of Maqam Music in Iraqi Kurdistan in accordance with the region’s cultural and musical criteria. The research, however, refrains from taking a historical approach, offering no room to the evolutionary process of Maqam formulating among the Kurds. Rather, the order of that music as it is known today has come under the spotlight. The main question the paper deals with is the modal structure and the theoretical roots of Maqams in Kurdish music. Thus, it seeks to elucidate the theoretical bases upon which this type of music has grown in Iraqi Kurdistan. To do so, the researcher has tried to initially touch upon a review of the related literature, followed by a field study combined with interviews involving local musicians and experts and later an analysis of the modals and a deconstruction of the Maqams, all aimed at offering a full portrayal of the concept of Maqam and its fundamental theories. The paper, therefore, is a qualitative research making use of the descriptive-analytical method. Data collection has been carried out based on observation, interviews and compiling details from a wide variety of textual sources not to mention visual references. The results gained by the study brought the researcher closer to the idea that the concept of Maqam in Kurdistan has two fundamental and key application: The primary and most common one is singing or instrumental performance with a free rhythm, while the second one is the modal form. The three fundamental elements of the vocal scheme, the role of the levels and the model melodies play a key part in creating the identity of Maqam works. Among Kurdistan musicians, the concept of mode refers more to a vocal scheme. As a matter of fact, the local musicians have little clear understanding regarding the elements which constitute the identity of the modes of Maqam (except for the vocal scheme). When it comes to modal structures, Maqams are divided into two major categories: those which incorporate more than one mode with a cyclic pattern and a certain specified order. In other words, as the final mode is performed, a particular Maqam in question loops back into the first mode. The second category, however, covers Maqams which consist of merely one single and unique mode.

The accurate and conscious performance, as desired by the music community, has always been one of the major concerns of the players engaged in the scientific and academic acquisition of this field. To achieve this, the assessment and valuation of music performances by the professors and professionals can be noted as the most important academic means in order to distinguish between accurate and inaccurate performance in line with providing patterns and training the players. However, is it possible to assess music in a quantitative manner followed by marking its performance? If positive, based on which criteria and standard? Composing music and translating it into text, or in general, scores and revising and performing it depend on factors which are less adaptable to the current scientific-academic approaches of the date. In addition to the impact by the music that has constants and variables --just like a living phenomenon-- we have the player, the composer and the audience on the other hand, each with their intellectual and physical complications that can affect the valuation of music performance at different levels.
