  • Student Perceptions of Educational Environment in a New Nursing College by Dreem Tool in Iran

    Introduction

    Educational environment has a critical effect on the student's learning, performance and innovations.
    The aim of this study was to evaluate the perception to problem identification among nursing students in a newly-founded Nursing school in Torbat, Iran.

    Materials and Methods

    This cross-sectional study was conducted in a newly-founded Nursing School in Torbat. 120 students completed the questionnaire. The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) was used to evaluate the educational environment.

    Results

    Mean age of the study population was 20.81±1.55 yrs with a female/male ratio of 1.22. The mean total score of the DREEM scale was 115.67±12.4 out of 200. The mean score of all subscales of the DREEM questionnaire were "positive perception" except for the student's self-perception domain that had many negative aspects.

    Conclusion

    In this study the student's self-perception was not favorable according to the DREEM scale and was identified as "need to be changed and improved" in our newly-founded nursing school. Having a schedule to train nursing students and providing friendly, supportive and comfortable atmosphere can improve the educational environment.

  • Studying on Patients' Awareness of the Symptoms of Hospital Infections at Shahid Kamyab Educational Hospital from March to September 2015

    Introduction

    Annually more than 1.4 million of world population suffer from nosocomial infections. The present study was conducted to assess the patients' knowledge about the symptoms of hospital infections.

    Materials and Methods

    This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted through census method on 350 patients admitted to Shahid Kamyab Hospital in Mashhad. They completed a researcher-made questionnaire containing demographic information and questions for evaluating awareness about the symptoms of hospital-acquired infections. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics using SPSS22.

    Results

    65% of the participants of this study were male. 68.7% of the participants had a level of awareness higher than average knowledge regarding the symptoms of hospital infections.

    Conclusion

    Considering the high level of knowledge of patients about the symptoms of hospital infections, the patients' education process can be continued to keep and improve this trend.

  • The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Quality of Nursing Care in Perspective of Patients in Tehran, Iran

    Introduction

    Nurses often work in a stressful environment for this reason studies have emphasized to the impact of emotional intelligence on the performance of nurses. The reason is that emotions can influence in establishing and maintaining quality in a care setting. This study was done for identifyingrelationship between emotional intelligence and quality of nursing care in perspective of patients in Tehran University of medical sciences hospitals.

    Materials And Methods

    this was a cross sectional descriptive- analytic study conducted in 2016. The research population was nurses and patients in Tehran University of medical sciences hospitals. Data were collected using standardized questionnaires of emotional intelligence and parasuraman questionnaire (hospital quality assessment).

    Result

    the best score of emotional intelligence domains in nurses was social self- awareness (3.9) and the lowest was self- motivation (3.02). Totally emotional intelligence in nurses was higher than average with 3.2. The results of this study showed that there is no significant relationship between emotional intelligence and quality of nursing care in selected hospitals.

    Conclusion

    Improving emotional intelligence in nurses can improve quality of nursing care. Soit is recommended that authorities consider the promotion of employee's emotional intelligence in hospitals and evaluate the quality of services from perspective of patients.

  • The Effect of Psychological Capital on Quality of Work life given the Modifying Role of Job Stress

    There has been a growing interest among scholars in intangible organizational capitals in recent years. Present research is primarily concerned with investigating the relationship of psychological capital with quality of work life and the modifying effect of job stress on the relationship between the first two variables. The required data was collected in the winter of 2016 through the distributed questionnaires among employees of Nilpar Companies operating in the office chair and furniture industry, based on stratified sampling. Because of limited number of the population (435), to determine the sample size, the Cochran formula in limited population was used. Then, based on the sample size and convenience sampling, the questionnaires were distributed. Finally, from the collected questionnaires, 204 thereof were considered valid and used in subsequent analyses. To examine the relationship between the variables by test of the hypotheses, multivariate regression and structural equation modeling (path analysis) were performed. The results suggested that at 95 percent confidence there was a positive and statistically significant relationship between psychological capital and quality of work life. In addition, a negative and statistically significant relationship was found that job stress was negatively correlated to psychological capital and quality of work life which was significant in both instances.

  • Characteristics of the Thoracic and Abdominal Trauma in Taleghani Hospital, Mashhad, Iran

    Introduction

    To evaluate the characteristics of thoracic and abdominal trauma in patients referred to Taleghani trauma center of Mashhad, Iran during a period of 6 months.

    Materials And Methods

    In a retrospective cross-sectional study the recoded data of inpatient cases who admitted because of thoracic or abdominal trauma in March to September 2017 were evaluated. The demographic data, classification, complications and mechanism of injury of the patients were extracted into checklists and analyzed.

    Results

    411 cases were studied, the majority being male (81.9%, n = 337). The patient's average age was 33.25 ± 19.23 years, varying from 1 to 92 years of age. Male, younger ages, blunt mechanisms and motor vehicle accidents were the main findings. The mortality rate was 10.8%.

    Conclusions

    Effective education especially for boys and youngsters is needed. Also due to the role of motor vehicle accidents, providing safe frame-works of transportation consists of roads and vehicles is a priority.

  • Investigating the Impact of Management Information System's Capacity on the Professional Ethics

    Introduction
    Professional ethics is one of the essential topics of all human societies. Professional ethics is a strategic tool that discusses on the ethical topics of the specialized sciences of different professions as well as discussing on the issue that how professional knowledge should be used to provide appropriate services. In using information systems, managers should be more aware of the impacts of systems on individuals and organizations and be more confident in achieving their determined objectives. Accordingly, this paper tends to investigate the impact of the capacity of information systems on professional ethics.
    Materials And Method
    The present research is an applied research in terms of purpose and, descriptive-correlation research in terms of type and analysis. The statistical society in this research deals with the managers of the Faculties of the Islamic Azad University in Mashhad; 86 individuals were selected using classified random sampling method. Data were collected using two standard questionnaires of professional ethics and capacity of information systems. The data were analyzed using SPSS and Smart PLS software and taking benefit of structural equation modeling method.
    Results
    Research findings showed that the capacity of information systems affects professional ethics of managers.
    Conclusion
    As a result, the capacity of information systems affects the professional ethics of managers of the Faculties of Islamic Azad University in Mashhad.

  • The Role of Helicobacter Pylori Eradication in the Treatment of Chronic Urticaria in Comparison with Classic Treatments

    Introduction

    Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) is the most common chronic worldwide bacterial infection in humans in all of ages and the majority of Chronic Urticarial patients also carry H. Pylori. The purpose of the present study was to studied H. pylori eradication in the treatment of chronic urticaria in comparison with classic treatment on two treatment groups.

    Materials and Methods

    participants were 120 Chronic Urticaria patients with H. Pylori infected and positive Urease Breath Test (UBT) who refer to Quaem Hospital in Mashhad. Participants were randomly assigned two groups, control group received classic treatment of Urticaria (H1 & H2 Blockers) and investigation group was additional treatment by triple drug therapy (20 mg of Robeprazole twice daily, 500 mg of Clarithromycin twice daily, and 1gr of Amoxicillin twice daily during 14 days). Within one, three & six months after therapy symptoms were separately analyzed in two groups by using urticaria severity score.

    Results

    As to the age factor, no significant difference was found (P-value: 0.863). However, the average age with regard to gender, was significantly higher in men (P-value: 0.006).The majority of patients who had been exposed to combination drug treatment, were significantly better cured than the group exposed to classic treatment lonely (P-value

    Conclusions

    Addition of this treatment for eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with chronic urticaria, could be more effective than the classic H1and H2 blockers alone for resolution of symptoms.

  • NHS Present Complaint Handling System about Healthcare. Is it Fit for the Purpose?

    Introduction
    Despite massive recent changes in the complaint handling process of NHS, the process is still complex. There is increase in the number of complaints and inconsistency in the complaint handling. According to the Secretary of State for Health’s statement to the parliament standing committee, “there are 12,000 avoidable hospital deaths every year. More than 10,000 serious incidents are reported to NHS England, out of a total of 1.4 million mostly low-harm or no-harm incidents annually. There were 338 recorded “never events” (such as wrong site surgery) during 2013-14 and NHS England received 174,872 written complaints. The NHS Litigation Authority’s latest estimate of clinical negligence liabilities is £26.1 billion. The cost of the Francis Inquiry into the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust was £13.6 million."
    Good quality complaints handling is an indicator of continuous improvement in the quality and safety of health care. The objective of this review was to analyse whether the current NHS complaint handling system is fit for the purpose.
    Materials and Methods
    A narrative review of the relevant literature known to the author was conducted.
    Conclusion
    Whilst the Government has brought major changes in the complaint handling process of NHS, the patients are still dissatisfied with the current process. There are some perceived gaps and lack of coherence in the current complaint handling system indicating that it is not fit for the purpose.
