Avicenna believed that the reality of the natural world is composed of forms emanated from the active intellect, which are put together in a certain order and have made a single whole. Human being adds some form to this whole by his actions, too. When the added form is the result of his intellectual understanding and in concert with the united system of the world forms, his behavior is ethical; otherwise, it is not ethical. The language of ethics also shows this integrated unitedness, and its truth corresponds with the external world. Therefore, Avicenna’s view required that the language of ethics be a truthful speaker of the external world. However, his words appear so that he doesn’t accept that the language of ethics has such a property. So, in light of the examination of Avicenna’s ethical anthropology, we shall say that his main attention is towards his audiences and show that in his view the truth of the language of ethics depends on its audiences. In this paper, we first analyze the ontology of Avicenna’s ethics, and then we shall examine the audiences of his ethics and the properties of the language of ethics for each one of them.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the basis and criterion of ethical values in Islamic political system. The implementation of ethical rules in a political system requires a knowledge of its ethical criterion. There are four approaches for explaining the criterion of ethical rules: deontologism, consequentialism, virtue ethics, and truth-orientedness. All of these ethical approaches try to answer the question of what is the criterion for an ethical action to be valuable. Because of the diversity of ethical theories, even in the Islamic ethics, it is crucial to determine which criterion and approach is the basis of ethical, political actions. Investigation the ethical approaches and the political effects of each one of them, I believe that the diversity of ethical approaches is a consequence of one-dimensional, extremist view on one of the aspects of ethical action. It is while the governing ethical theory of a political society must be a comprehensive approach that consider each ethical approach in a certain level and with respect to its position in the ethical theory. The ethical approach in the political system of Islam has different dimensions and levels that each of them has a certain function and status, and the ethical system doesn’t lead to any consequence alone. So, looking for solution doesn’t have any conflict with deontologism and virtue ethics, and extremism in any level would lead to carelessness about other levels and emergence of inefficient ethical theory.

Virtues are the positive, stable character traits that emerge in the course of time and in response to the shared experiences of children with their environment in developmental stages of life and by continuation and repetition they become habitus. In this way, they establish a basis for a virtuous society. The aim of this paper is to overview the thoughts of developmental theorists such as Piaget, Kochanska, Ibn Miskawayh, and Nasir al-Din al-Tusi and to present research evidence about the formation of virtues in children. According to the majority of developmental views, we can acknowledge that there are some prerequisites for virtuous behavior before the beginning of developmental stages, including pre-ethical sensitivity, shared intention, ethical ego, and conscience. These prerequisites can help the emergence and stabilization of virtues in children by enriching the environmental experiences in the developmental stages. So the supportive and warm relationship of parents and providing rich social experiences could make an appropriate ground for strength and stability of virtuous behavior in children.

It is one of the most important tasks of the contemporary ethical epistemology to answer the skepticism about the justification of ethical belief. Ethical foundationalism and coherentism can be counted among the approaches against ethical skepticism. Mark Timmons introduces contextualism in the structure of the justification of ethical belief as an independent structural theory alongside the ethical foundationalism and coherentism. The aim of this paper is to relate and criticize the features of this approach according to Mark Timmons view. In doing so, we will first explain the features and principles of structural contextualism in the justification of ethical belief. Focusing on context and contextual foundational beliefs, then, we will criticize each one of the features and principles. The result of this study is that the structural contextualism in the justification of ethical belief not only isn’t an appropriate option alongside the foundationalism and coherentism, but it also leads to relativism and skepticism.

Immanuel Kant, in his Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, introduced his only aim the search for and the establishment of the highest moral principle, the one which can work as a compass for ethical actions. But, Hegel believed that Kant’s ethical view was abstract and seemed somewhat empty. In addition, Kant’s ethical principles had contradictions that made it practically infeasible. Kant thought of ethics primarily as something belonged to the individual sphere. But, for Hegel, thinking of ethics as an individual matter mean to ignore the social and political world which is hidden behind the ethical actions of the individual. Furthermore, for him, Kant’s insistence on generalizing the ethical law could be subject to some objections. For example, generalizing the rules is only a negative test, that is, even if it passed successfully, it would show only that what we must not do, not what we must do. In this essay, we want to analyze the most important principles of Hegel’s ethics with respect to his criticisms of Kant’s ethical view.
