    Objective
The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of two stapes prostheses in hearing improvement of patients undergoing stapes surgery for otosclerosis.
    Materials And Methods
In this retrospective and descriptive study, the charts of 291 stapedectomies performed by one surgeon (first author) from 1997 to 2011 in Imam Khomeini and Apadana hospitals of Ahvaz were reviewed.
    Results
278 patients including 172 females (61.9%) and 106 males (38.1%) undergoing stapedectomy or Stapedotomy were evaluated in this study. Subjects were 18-69 years old with the mean age of 35.4 years. The study group was comprised of 32 titanium stapesprosthesis and 246 Teflon piston prostheses. Closure of the air-bone gap to less than 10 dB was achieved in 207 cases (84.1%) of the patients with Teflon piston prosthesis compared with 21 cases (65.6%) of those with titanium stapes prostheses. Deafness occurred in 2 patients (0.71%) after the surgery.
    Conclusions
Both prostheses provided comparable results. The smaller numbers in the titanium group may confound these results. The selection bias may also influence the results seen in this study. The titanium stapes prosthesis is a good alternative to Teflon pistonprosthesis.

    Background
AirQ software proved to be a valid and reliable tool to estimate the potential short term effects of air pollution. In this study the AirQ2.2.3 model was used to evaluate adverse health effects caused by NO2 exposure in Ahvaz during 2009.
    Methods
The AirQ was developed by World Health Organization that can predict health endpointsattributed to criteria pollutants and allows the examination of various scenarios in which emission rates of pollutants are varied.NO2 react with ammonia, moisture, and other compounds to form small particles. These small particles penetrate deeply into sensitive parts of the lungs and can cause or worsen respiratory diseases, such as emphysema and bronchitis, and can aggravate existing heart disease, leading to increased hospital admissions and premature death.
    Results
In the present study approximately 3 percent of total cardiovascular mortality, acute myocardial infarction and hospital admission of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease happened when the NO2 concentration was over than 20µg/m3.
    Conclusion
Low percentage of observed health endpoints was associated to low concentration of measured NO2. The lower level of RR value might achieve if some control strategies for reducing NO2 emission be used. Therefore the higher RR value can depict mismanagement in urban air quality.

    Objective
The purpose of this study was evaluating hearing status of tinnitus patients referred to our center.
    Materials And Methods
Total 144 Patients referred to our center by the end of December 2008 to June 2009, which have tinnitus complainant after initial examination and cleaning the ear duct in audiology clinic were introduced and completed the questionnaire. Audiometery with polls to assess the severity and tinnitus frequency is done.
    Results
Based on the job criteria the patients divided in two groups of noisy job by 27.1 percent and 72.9 percent in quiet job respectively. In the study based on precise frequency test (FT), 72 individuals (50%) with type Tone, 54 individuals (37.5%) with Narrow band noise condition and 18 (12.5%) had no resemblance. Compared the subjects based on severity of tinnitus only 126 individuals were correctly measured, 68 (47.2%) with intensity less than 5 dBsl, 41 (28.5%) were 5-10 dBsl and 17 (11.8%) showed more than 10 dBsl. Compare the audiogram as the highest values of inference are included 48 (31.5%) type of High Tone Loss, 38 patients (26.4%) type of sensory - neural, 30 subjects (20.8%) or normal type and 22 subjects (15.3 percent) were of conductive type.
    Conclusion
we could demonstrate that not only the amount of hearing losses, but also the shape of the audiogram might be an important factor for the occurrence of tinnitus. In our sample of patients, tinnitus was connected to audiograms with a steep slope.

Prognosis of thyroid papillary cancer is quite well longlasting, so a 10- yr survival is observed in more than90% cases. In this study, rate of incidence of t thyroid papillary cancer in conralateral lobe was assessed among patients who had a surgical thyroidectomy re-operation.
    Material And Methods
In this retrospective study, we examined 82 patients diagnosed with thyroid papillary cancer that had thyroid lobectomy surgery first and thyroidectomy re-operation next from 1376 to 1386.
    Results
Of 82 patients studied, 33 (40%) were diagnosed with papillary cancer in contralateral lobe. No significant relation was observed between age, sex, size of original tumor, interval between 2 surgical operations and incidence rate of papillary cancer in contralateral lobe. But due to tumor's multifocusing and presence of metastasis spread to lymphatic glands, an increase in tumor risk was brought about in remaining of thyroid. Following thyroidectomy re-operation, no complications were common highly, but a few of them included: RLN transient paralysis in 6 patients (7.3%); RLN permanent paralysis in 2 patients (2.5%) fleeting hypokalemia in 9 patients (11%); and persistent hypoparathyoidism in 1 patient (1.2%). Following surgical operation, 5 patients (6%) suffered hematoma 2 cases of which needed re-operation.
    Conclusion
Surprisingly, incidence rate of thyroid papillary cancer was relatively high in remaining tissue of contralateral lobe. We believe that such patients must undergo treatment of thyroidectomy re-operation which can be performed with acceptable complication rate, maintaining patient’s health.

    Objective
Oral cancer is primarily a disease of epithelial origin. The tongue is the most common site of oral cancer. The aim of this study was to determine frequency of tongue cancer and signs, symptoms, clinical features, and site of lesions in addition to factors affected this cancer. Methods and Materials:Twenty eight medical records of patients who admitted for tongue cancer in head and neck surgery department, Ahvaz, Iran, during 2003-2007 years, were analyzed. Information was including: age, gender, diagnosis time, lesion site, Treatment and lymph node involvement.
    Results
The most patients (78.6%) were above 40 years, male were (72.2%) and female were (75%) in above 40 years group. The most common lesions site was shown in Table 1. The median time from symptoms presentation to diagnosis was 5.21 month. Early stage (I,II) and late stage (III, IV) were seen in (39.3%) and (60.7%) of patients. Primary lesion resection was performed for all of the patients and 16 cases (57.1%) underwent hemi or total gelossectomy and neck dissection. Recurrence was seen in 7 cases (25%). Finally, in patients fallow up, 3 cases death after 6-7 years.
    Conclusion
Gender does not influence prognosis in patients with oral tongue cancer, and in our study there was no correlation between sex and locoregional metastasis, thus on prognosis. Sixty-seven percent of patients were stage III and IV. In one study, 55% of patients were stage III and IV (16) that was lower and in the other study there were (78.8%) that was higher(15,16) than this study.

Kimura's disease (KD) is a rare idiopathic condition of unknown etiology. The disease is characterized by swelling and lesions in the head and neck region, with involvement of the subcutaneous soft tissue, major salivary glands and lymph nodes. Patients almost always have eosinophilia and elevated serum immunoglobulin E levels. The diagnosis is established by biopsy. KD is usually self limiting. We report a case of Kimura’sdisease in a female and review the literature. Thepresent report highlights the need for increased awareness byall otolaryngologist of this clinically impressive entity.
