Sam/Sohrab and Zal/Rostam: the battle of father and son
Author(s):
Abstract:
The link between literature and psyche has been raised from ancient times but the exact and methodical explanation comes after Fruid’s theory. Oedipus complex is one of the most important fruid’s theories which regards the baby boy’s affection to his mother and killing father. The research expresses the battle between Rostam and Sohrab from this perspective according to documents and reasoning in a different level.Zal could not over come the Oedipus complex, because of Sam’s(father) rejection, father’s absence and dissimilarity with him achieving an inextricably link with phoenix (mother-beloved), he has an unsuccessful life with Rudabeh. In the perspective of killing the father, since Sam is immortal, another layer of story has been occurred by characters’ transmutation and in the battle of Rostam and Sohrab, in fact the quarrel is between Zal (=Rostam) with Sam (=Sohrab).
