A Study of the Relationship between Awareness of Traffic Regulations and Driving Violations

Awareness of traffic regulations is a very important concept for drivers using the road and traffic infrastructure. It is naturally expected that with an increase in the driver’s awareness of traffic regulations, there will be a subsequent decrease in the incidence of their driving violations; however, this relationship has not been investigated sufficiently in academic literature. Therefore, the main goal of this research is to examine this relationship between awareness of traffic regulations and driving violations. The research method is by survey and the sampled population is all of the individuals aged 18-65 in Yasouj that hold a valid driving certification and access to a private car. To this end, 389 subjects were selected by the random multi-stage sampling method. The measurement tool is a questionnaire, which includes two scales that show content validity has been used for determination of the validity, and the reliability was measured by the Richard-Kuderson method. The descriptive research findings show that driving violations among drivers is high, and that drivers’ awareness of traffic regulations is moderate to low. The inferential research findings show that there is a negative significant relationship between a driver’s awareness of traffic regulations and the driving violation.
