Content Analysis of TV Women Sports Programs

Abstract:
This article aims to carry out an analysis on both form and content of television women sports programs. It tries to give a conclusive picture of the way television addresses women sports in Iran. This applied research uses content analysis plus description to obtain its findings. Sports programs of Channel One, Two, Three, Five and News Channel were randomly selected within a time table of three weeks. Research findings indicate that 3.3 percent of the programs belong to women sports while this amount is 84.3 percent for men; women were active in 23 sports while men played in 44 sports. During the time this research was being carried out no sports match belonging to women was not shown live on these channels. As for women sports components, championship stands at top in terms of time being allocated, and public-recreational, professional and educational sports stand next respectively.
