The Attitude of Nurses Working in Educational Hospitals of Bandar Abbas University of Medical Sciences toward the Elderly -2017

Today, due to different factors such as increased life expectancy, significant advances in knowledge and technology the average age of individuals has increased, and aging has become a global phenomenon so it's important to pay attention to the elderly. This study investigated the attitudes of nurses working in educational hospitals of Bandar Abbas University of Medical Sciences toward the elderly in 2017. This was a descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study conducted in 2017 in Bandar Abbas educational hospitals on 82 nurses selected randomly. The data was collected through interviews and using a questionnaire. The research instrument used in this study was a demographic information questionnaire and Kogan attitude questionnaire for the elderly. The data was analyzed by SPSS software version 16. The results showed that 51.2% of the nurses were above average and 48.8% lower than the overall average score. According to the findings, the highest percentage of positive attitude (39%) was in the age range of 30-35 and the lowest was in the age range of 40-45 years. Women were more likely to have a positive attitude toward the elderly than men and there was a correlation between the educational level and positive attitudes toward the elderly (P≤0.05). According to the results, the attitude of most nurses was positive toward elderly, variables such as age, sex and educational level were correlated with nurse's attitudes, and there was also a correlation between the passing of training programs of elderly care and positive attitude of nurses.
