Comparison Two Methods of Methotrexate and Mifepristone-Methotrexate Combination in Treatment of Ectopic Pregnancy

The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of two methods of Methotrexate and Mifepristone-methotrexate combination in treatment of ectopic pregnancy. This prospective study was carried out on 66 Patients with ectopic pregnancy who were eligible for medical treatment. Participants were divided into two groups of case and control (n=33). Case group (group A) received combination of mifepristone and methotrexate and control group (group B) received methotrexate plus placebo. Data was analyzed by using T-Test، chi-square، and Fisher Test. P value less than 0. 05 was considered statistically significant. There was no significant difference in demographic characteristics like age and sex between both groups (p>0. 05). The participants who received the combination regimen were discharged three days earlier from the hospital (p=0. 001). The mean-time required for decrease βhCG level was significantly shorter in the case group (p=0. 046). The number of injections was significantly higher in the methotrexate group in comparison with combination of mifepristone and methotrexate group (63% vs. 18%) (p<0. 0001). There was no significant difference in the success rate between group A and B. (90% vs. 78%) (p=0. 17). Addition of mifepristone to the methotrexate did not have significant effect on success rate in treatment of ectopic pregnancy. However، it decreased the duration of hospital stay، the required time for decrease βhCG levels، and the number of methotrexate injections.
