Accountability: The Basis for Public Trust Enhancement

Abstract:
There are many evidences indicating that increase in resources and responsibilities of public sector is not match to the degree of accountability in this section. There are however lots of evidences showing that strategic environmental variables such as social trust in society could be effective on the current situation too. In this investigation, the researchers studied the trust literature and provided a three dimensional model. Then, they evaluated the effect of public accountability in increasing or decreasing of public trust to the government and political institutions. Accordingly, the purpose of this investigation was to study and explain the role of accountability in public trust to governments. The research method is descriptive (survey research). The statistical sample was selected from the research community that formed from public and private organizations in Tehran city. The data were gathered with questionnaires and analyzed with LISREL and SPSS software. Regarding the role of accountability indicators in public and political trust, this article tries to emphasize this important role and suggests developed model for accountability and public trust to government in Iran.
