The Relationship between Drug Addict's Treatment-seeking Motivations and their Personality Traits

Abstract:
People enter treatment programs with different motivations. Given the fact that these motivations can have various sources and that people have different personalities, the present study embarked on identifying the relationship between personality traits such as novelty seeking, harm avoidance and reward dependence, as assessed by tridimensional personality questionnaire (Cloninger et al. 1991), and different types of motivations for treatment, as assessed by the treatment motivation questionnaire (Ryan et al., 1995). Research has shown that the above-mentioned personality ratites have close association with addiction and can to a large extent delineate the personality profiles of drug addicts. To do so, 107 individuals in treatment programs were randomly chosen and the aforementioned questionnaires were administered to them
