The role of personality traits, coping strategies and attribution styles in predicting the rate of lapse opate-dependent patient

Abstract:
This study is carried on to investigate the role of three variables in personality traits, coping strategies, and attributional styles (predicted variables) in predicting the rate of lapses quitting opiate-dependent patients (under methadone therapy). In this research, three scales are used to measure the mentioned variables on 78 opiate-dependent patient: Eysenk Personality Questionnaire RS (EPQ-RS), Coping Response Inventory (CRI), and Attributional Style Questionnaire (ASQ). Recognizing the rate of lapses was based on the number of tests of positive opium recorded in the patient's files (at least 6 months or 180 days). Research data were examined on the basis of hierarchical regression. Research results showed that three variables, neuroticism (Personality Traits Subscale), problem-solving and emotional regulation coping strategies (coping strategies Subscale) predicted the rate of lapses during therapy course in quitting patients. Two variables, neuroticism and problem-solving were positively correlated and emotional regulation variable was negatively correlated with the number of lapses during therapy course. the study showed when neuroticism and rate usage problem-solving coping strategies increased the rate of lapses enhanced.Whatever rate usage emotional regulation coping strategies increased the rate of lapses decreased.
