Post-modern moral education from Richard Rorety's perspective
Abstract:
From among all the characteristics of postmodern morality, its opposition to fundamentalism and domination, on the one hand, and its support for pluralism and social cohesion, on the other, stand out. The implications of these characteristics for moral education can help educators define a comprehensive and holistic approach emphasizing individual differences, altruism, and opposition to domination and authoritarianism. Furthermore, pluralistic tendencies and avoidance of absolutism would be among the basic characteristics of this approach. However, this outlook has the following shortcomings as well: absolute detachment from power in order to avoid domination, leading to the abandonment of lower classes and overlooking their rights; on the other hand, in avoiding absolutism, accepting any belief, approach, or action could lead to prevalence of some that may be inhumane and that is against the very nature of moral education
