The Future of Political Islam in Turkey

Most of the political experts believe that the Turkish case particularly the experience with political Islam in the country is of utmost importance to the Muslim World. Since it contains a system of values and ideas that can counterbalance the West and provides its followers with the power to fill the power vacuums and elevating the power ladder, Islam is presently introduced as an enemy of the West. For this reason, discussions of political Islam and Islamist movements matter a lot for the Western research institutes and decision-making institutions. In the meantime, the rise of political Isalm in Turkey as a strategic region where the east and the west meet attracts much attention. The process of developments in Turkey, vast support by the social groups for the Justice and Development Party as well as their successes reveal that Islamists are the main actors in the present and future developments in Turkey. This article seeks to understand political Islam and the future of Islamists in Turkey.
