Microbial Pollution of Soil by Organic Waste Disposal and Determination of Effective Factors

Author(s):
Abstract:
Application of organic wastes (solid wastes and wastewaters) to agricultural lands is perhaps the most economical methods of their disposal. If this is done properly, the soil acts as a biofilter in refining the organic wastes, and the physical and chemical properties of the soil itself are also improved. In the contrary, inappropriate application of organic waste to soils may lead to increased soluble salts and heavy metal concentration and number of pathogenic microorganisms. Introduction of pathogens to human food chain through agricultural products and surface and ground waters may cause epidemic diseases. The physical and chemical properties of soil and kinds of microorganisms of great importance in disposal of organic wastes. The knowledge about these factors can help in disposal of organic waste with minimum amount of organic pollution.
