Manifestation of Love in Vahshi Bafghi's Sonnets

Love is one of the most basic subjects in Persian poetry. Celestial and spiritual loves have created superior concepts and beautiful interpretations in poems written by the clerics, mystics, scholars and common poets. Kamal al-Din Vahshi Bafghi, the poet of the tenth century of H.A., is one of the influential poets in love school. With great skill in employing words, he has portrayed love in different forms. This research aims to identify the characteristics of love presented by Vahshi Bafghi. The results show that the characteristics of love are not so different from love motifs in poems composed by other passionate and mystic poets. The position of love is exalted in his poems and its celestial form has been influenced by spiritual love. Different aspects of love in Vahshi’s sonnets are investigated in this study.
