Images in Journals Published by the Iranian Department of Agriculture, 2001- 2008

Identifying quantity of Images in Journals Published by the Iranian Department of Agriculture، 2001- 2008 Survey and content analysis methods are employed. Issues of 19 agricultural journal titles published by the Iranian Department of Agriculture are counted، and their types، color، and size are recorded then analyzed using descriptive statistics. 22% of 4873 articles published in 422 issues had at least one image. Overall 6012 images were identified. Around 53% are colored. Microscopic images comprised 53% (3297 frames) of the total. Around 38% are medium in size. The sheer number of images has increased، but not in proportion to the number of articles. Correspondence to the citation rank (impact factor) of journals and the number of articles with image is varied over years. Subject grouping of journals also indicates that the ratio of papers with images in medicine and botanical sciences journals is higher.
