Effect of physical and mechanical properties of aggregate on concrete

Abstract:
To evaluate the engineering properties of aggregate in the concrete, some rocks selected from various mines, then used for making concrete. Firstly, physical and mechanical properties of aggregates were determined, and then the materials crashed into aggregate (sand and gravel size particles). Next, other properties such as shape, pores, aggregate crushing value, aggregate impact value and grading were determined. The concrete was prepared by using a constant mix design. The mechanical properties of prepared concrete, such as compressive strength, tensile strength and elastic modulus after 7, 28 and 90 days, were determined. The results were analyzed and the percentage of each aggregate on concrete properties has been studied. The percentage is useful guides for identifying suitable aggregates; also for required tests for exploration the aggregates resources.
