Pot and Goblet (Tavil [Hermeneutics] in Mathnavi)

Abstract:
Pot belongs to this world, goblet to the Unseen Pot is transparent, lots of secrets in goblet (Moulana)Hermeneutics is an ancient method in the interpretation of sacred texts, whose history goes back to the Iliad and Odyssey epochs. This method first prevailed among the Muslims for the interpretation of detached letters and then various Islamic sets such as Mutazilites, Batinites (the Esoteric), Ikhvan us Safa (Brethren of Purity), Falasifa (Philosophers), Horufiya, and Gnostics tried to interpret the holy Quran and the traditions. In gnosticism, Tavil is ascension from the word to its meaning and transcendence from the term to its implication (allusion). Its base is human being who attains the understanding of the truths by existential change and elevation in every stage. In the Mathnavi - which is considered a gnostical interpretation - Moulana frequently interprets (the holy Quran); his method being a combination of appearance and essence. He considers the words in their true meanings which of course is not acquired except through inner intuition (witness) and vision. He depicts this issue through various exciting and interesting anecdotes.
