Interoperability between Metadata Systems and the Web Search Engines: Concepts, Challenges, and Current Approaches

The purpose of the research was to make clear the concepts, challenges, and current approaches of the interoperability between metadata systems and the web search engines. The present research was a conceptual research carried out done based on an analytical-critical approach with emphasizing on the related researches. For reaching this purpose, meanwhile dividing the area's approaches into four approaches, first in each section, presents a conceptual discussion, then related researches have been reviewed, and finally, the challenges and approaches analyzed. The findings show there are four approaches in that area. And, the syntax of implementing metadata systems affects on their usability in the various information contexts. As well as, affects on indexability, retrieability, visibility, and ranking of the content objects in the Web search engines, The Web search engines are compatible with HTML's tags and metatags. But the limitations of HTML's tags and meta tags, and its function for display only, decrease its performance in organizing the content objects. But XML due to its extensible structure improves the interoperability between metadata systems and the Web search engines.
