Content and support analysis of Iranian academic libraries websites

Academic library websites have an important role in information services to users. The aim of the present study was to assess library websites of Iranian universities based on general criteria evaluation and recognition their strength and weakness. In this analytical study, academic library websites of Iranian Universities were compared based on general criteria evaluation by using three checklists with questions which their validity were confirmed by experts and conducted research. During February 2103 period, 21 academic library websites affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology were evaluated. Data were analyzed by Excel software.Findings/ Totally, in the studied academic library websites, on average, 33.144 of the internal content item, 32.324 of external content research items and 41.104 of the support items were considered in designing the web pages. Among the studied universities, 3 universities (004) had considered more than 514 of checklists information items in terms of designing their website. Universities such Ferdowsi, Shahed, and Tehran had taken the evaluation criteria into consideration in terms of libraries websites design more than other univessities.In general, the content and support of library website of Iranian ministry of Science, Research and Technology Universities were at low level.
