Use of the molecular and conventional methods for the identification of human Dermatophytosis in Urmia Lake's peripheral area

Dermatophytosis is the infection of skin, hair and nail that is caused by various keratinophilic dermatophytes. It is a common infection wide spreading in the world and a public problem common endemic disease in Iran. As a short study we assessed the frequency of dermatophytic cutaneus infections in west Azarbayejan, Iran.Methods & Material: A total of 246 specimens were collected from clinically suspected. All patients were referred to medical mycology lab for the laboratorial identifications. Among 246 clinical samples examined, 28 positive patterns of dermatophytes were identified and five dermatophyte species including Trichophyton mentagrophytes (42.8%) Trichophyton rubrum (7.1%), Microsporum canis (32.1%), Microsporum gypseum (14.2%) and Trichophyton schoenleini (3.5%) were identified. Our results showed that the frequency and prevalence of dermatophytic infections have an increasing mode in Urmia, Iran.
