Comprehensive Study of Electrochemical and Electrocrystallization Behavior of Silver (I) in Molten Salt Eutectic of Ca(NO3)2- NH4NO3 and Acquiring its Kinetic and Thermodynamic Parameters with Different Electrochemical Techniques

Electrochemical studies were carried out on silver nitrate in molten eutectic Ca(NO3)2–NH4NO3 Transient techniques; i.e., cyclic voltammetry, square wave voltammetry, convolution voltammetry and chronopotentiometry were used in order to study the reaction mechanism and transport parameters of electroactive specie on an inert electrode. The reversibility of the system was studied and the results showed that the electrochemical system Ag(I)/Ag(0) was quasi-reversible. Values of the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters; k° (standard rate constant), α (transfer coefficient), io (exchange current), E° (standard potential) and parameter Λ for Ag(I) were obtained (Λ=k°/ (D f υ)1/2). Mass transport toward the electrode is a simple diffusion process, and the D (diffusion coefficient) of Ag(I) was also calculated and the validity of the Arrhenius law for process was also qualified. Diffusion activation energy (Ea) and activation energy (E a) for the electron transfer reaction were calculated. Chronoamperometric study indicated instantaneous nucleation of Ag with threedimensional growth of the nucleus while the applied overpotential was.
