Shadd Rahal, fastening the provisions on the back of camel (getting ready to start a journey) for visiting the shrine (Ziyarat) of Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) in the view point of Duebandieh and Ibn Teymieh
Islamic scholars consider traveling for Ziyarat of Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) one of the most valuable deeds. And no one was against this ritual until Ibn Teymieh Harrani in the early eighth century, relying on the hadith of “Shadd Rahal” narrated in Bokhari and Moslim’s books, considered Ziyarat a heresy. He claimed that if a pilgrim makes a pilgrimage to prophetic sanctuary (al-Masjid an-Nabawi), he should only have the intention of visiting the mosque itself not the shrine of prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H). And it is not allowed to travel with the intention of Ziyarat. Apposing this verdict, many Islamic scholars expressed their deep disapproval and until now they have continually granted the permission of this ritual by refuting Ibn Teymieh and his followers’ reasons. Meanwhile, Deobandi, one of Hanafi tribes in Indian Subcontinent, like other Islamic sects stood against this verdict. And regard it contrary to consensus of all Muslims and called Ibn Teymieh’s reading of the hadith incorrect. And they maintain that a pilgrim to Medina can have the intention of Ziyarat of the Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) shrine.
