Identification and prioritization of sustainable university's factors

Abstract:
The sustainable university topic emerged from sustainable development paradigm that focuses on balanced economic، social and environmental development. Therefore، a sustainable university is defined as a university that its philosophy is based on substantive rationality and system thinking، using interdisciplinary approach in teaching and research to solve human community problems، and its final destination is sustainable development for current and future generations. The main purpose of this research was identification and prioritization of sustainable university''s factors. This research was carried out by exploratory mixed method in two qualitative and quantitative parts. In the qualitative part، the focus groups research method was used and in the quantitative part analytical-descriptive research method was employed. The research population consisted of UT faculty members and graduate students. In the qualitative part، purposive non-probability sampling method and in the quantitative part، stratified sampling method was used for selection of students and faculty. In the qualitative part، semi-structural interviews with academic experts was conducted and in the quantitative part a researcher made questionnaire was used. To analyze the research data in the qualitative part، coding and encoding method was used; while in the quantitative part Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) were utilized. The results of the study showed that a sustainable university has six main factors. The results of AHP indicated that from the perspective of faculty members and graduate students of UT، the factors of a sustainable university in order of importance based on their numerical weights are: sustainable management system (. 311)، sustainable teaching system (. 236)، sustainable research system (. 197)، environmental management system (. 124)، sustainable financing system (. 086)، and sustainable development outreach (. 086).
