An investigation about the Relationship between Personality Traits, Advanced Motivation and Learning Styles among University Students

The present study investigates the relationship between personality traits, advanced motivation and learning styles. This is a descriptive correlative research. The population includes 440 Kashan university students selected using a stratified sampling. In order to measure the aimed variables, NEO personality test, Herman's Advancement Motivation Questionnaire (AMQ) and Learning Style Inquiry (LSI) were applied. Pearson correlation coefficient and regression were used to analyze the data. Findings indicate that there is a relationship among personality traits, advanced motivation and learning styles, in a way that there is a negative relation between abstract conceptualization and neurosis, and there is a positive relation between abstract conceptualization, extroversion and openness. There is a positive relationship between objective experience and neurosis. There is a negative relationship between active experimentation and agreeableness and a positive one between active experimentation and task-orientation. There is a significant relationship only between advancement motivation and abstract conceptualization. Another finding of the present research was that personality traits predict learning styles, but advanced motivation does not.
