Relationship among Occupational Stress, Coping Strategies and Job Burnout in Primary Schools Principals

Abstract:
This study was performed by the purpose of studying the relationship among occupational stress, coping strategies and job burnout of primary schools principals. The research method was correlation. 142 primary schools principals (73 female and 69 males’) selected by stratified and simple random sampling. Instrument of collecting data was performed by three questionnaires; questionnaire of Moslesh Job Burnout (1981), questionnaire of occupational stress from G. Melch & Swent (1984), and Allison’s Coping Strategies questionnaire (1997). The data were analyzed using correlation and regression. The results showed that there is significant and reverse relationship between coping strategies and job burnout of primary schools principals and the use of coping strategies reduce the job burnout. The findings also showed that the task dimension of stress was only able to predict job burnout. In fact, the task dimension of the standard beta coefficient of 0.368, 14% of the variance explained burnout of primary schools principals. Also, component of coping strategies have been able to predict job burnout. Participation component of coping strategies with standardized beta coefficient 0/434, 19% of the variance explained job burnout. These three components of the health, time management and realistic perspective which can explain 35% of primary schools principals have job burnout.
