Comparison of job satisfaction, burnout and organizational commitment in male and female librarians in Universities of Tehran city

The aim of present study was comparison of job satisfaction, burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and lack of personal accomplishment) and organizational commitment of male and female librarians by controlling degree, age and job precedent in university libraries of Tehran city. The research method was causal-comparative and the sample consisted of 128 (62 male and 64 female) librarians in university libraries of Tehran city selected based on classified randomized sampling with proportional allocation. Data was obtained using the Maslach & Jackson Burnout Inventory (MJBI), Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) and Job-In General (JIG); Then MANCOVA was used to analyze the data. Findings of this study showed that there are significant differences between two groups in job satisfaction, burnout, depersonalization and lack of personal accomplishment; but findings of this study showed that there were no significant differences between two groups in organizational commitment and emotional exhaustion. Result showed job satisfaction of female librarians was more than male librarians. Also burnout, depersonalization and lack of personal accomplishment of female librarians were less than male librarians.
