Sociological Reflection on Research Findings of Women's Leisure

From various perspectives, leisure is a considerable theme in sociological studies. Because of key social roles of women such as motherhood and wifehood, leisure finds its niche in recent gender studies. This article is written to review related scientific sociological researches in Iran and secondary analyzing of their data regarding to international large scale surveys to show the condition of women’s leisure and its challenges in Iran. Findings have been sorted out to lifetime of women as young, middle age and old women activities. Results show leisure just like other social objects are affected by structural variables such as gender and class. Popularity of some leisure patterns follows the expectation and perception of women as in traditional roles. In conclusion, information gap and lack of on-demand leisure policies necessitate plenary studies to consider latest communication technologies and new leisure activities among men and women.
