The impact of information technology on organizations maturity of public and non-public hospitals in Isfahan

One of the most important areas of implementing information technology (IT) is healthcare. Studies show that IT could have a tremendous effect on hospitals maturity. In this study, it was attempted to investigate the effect of IT activities on the levels of maturity of public and non-public hospitals in Isfahan. This cross-sectional study was conducted per descriptive-analytical method in 2014. The study population consisted of IT officials and experts of public and private hospitals in Isfahan (n=164). The tool for data collection in this study was the questionnaire for measurement of IT activities and organizational maturity including the parameters of innovation, improvement and support, with confirmed validity and reliability. The data were analyzed by SPSS 17 and Lizrel using descriptive statistical indices and tests of Friedman, structural equation modeling and regression analysis. Mean and standard deviation of IT was 3.21 ± 0.66, innovation 3.25 ± 0.78, improvement 3.48 ± 0.67 and support 3.22 ± 0.66. The results of this study showed that IT had the best prediction for support, followed by improvement, innovation, and organizational maturity. IT activities could can guide organization toward matured organization and play an effective role in support, innovation and improvement. Directors are recommended to reconsider the areas of IT and information systems, and IT Steering Committee formation, etc. using measures such as use of workforce with expertise and technical knowledge.
