Investigation on the kraft pulp properties from populous deltoids for packaging purpose

Abstract:
Variable factors of Kraft pulping including solidity, active alkali, temperature and time, were applied in three levels and liquor to wood ratio was 4 to 1. Optimum conditions of Kraft cooking were selected at 23% solidity, 18% active alkali, temperature 170 °C, and 180 minutes time, respectively. The pulping yield and kappa number of control pulp were measured at 53.94% and 17.2, respectively. Then, the pulp was refined to achieve freeness degree of 385 ml. CSF and hand sheets were made with gram mage of 127 g/cm2, and also physical and mechanical Properties of papers were mastered. The overall results indicated positive effects on high yield Kraft pulp produced from P.deltoides to improving mechanical and physical properties of virgin Kraft paper for packaging purposes.
