Social Factors Affecting Social Happiness of Teachers in the City of Esfahan

Happiness and cheerfulness are among the most basic of human needs and can help individuals cope with life’s problems and also can play an important role in increasing one’s productivity. Given the important role that teachers play in the socialization process of the young, this study aims to investigate the level of happiness among Esfahani teachers and the factors that might affect that happiness. The research method utilized was survey and the tool of data collection was questionnaire. Oxford social happiness questionnaire was used to measure teachers’ level of happiness. Research population consisted of all the teachers of the city of Esfahan, of which 375 individuals were selected as the sample. The research tool had face validity and Alpha coefficients of reliability for all variables were above the 0.70 threshold. The results showed that teachers’ level of happiness was at the medium level and that there was a significant relationship between happiness and religiosity, attitude toward work, social participation, relations with co-workers and leisure time. Multiple regression analysis showed that all the independent variables together could explain about 38.4 percent of the variance of the dependent variable.
