The position of، Cheraghchibashi in Iraq's Holy Shrines

Abstract:
Considering the Iranian people's great love and admiration for the ShiÄh imams and their holy shrines in Iraq, and also because of a number of religious and political considerations, many post-Islamic kings of Iran paid special attention to the development, renovation and veneration of such shrines and their host cities. Among the king's services to such places was the contribution of precious chandeliers, lanterns and candlesticks as charitable gifts; and to light up, maintain, and guard such light-sources someone called، cheraghchi' (lamp-lighter) was appointed by the Iranian government. In this article, after a short introduction, using relevant texts plus Iranian foreign ministry records, the services of Iran's kings to Iraq's holy shrines, and the position of، cheraghchibashi' (lamp-lighting) and its related tasks and duties are reviewed
