The Role of Patrician Families in the Upheavals of Georgia during the Mongol Invasion and Ilkhanid Rule (Case Study on Jakli Family)

This article will explain and analyze the political changes of Jakli Family in regard to Mongols and Ilkhanids rule and the trends of power and their government in Georgia. Findings show that Jakli family tried to strengthen their situation and increase their power in Georgia through adopting various policies versus Mongol commanders, Ilkhanid government and Bagratid kingdom. Furthermore, Mongol commanders and Ilkhanid government also tried to prevent Bagratid kingdom form gaining more power by families such as the prominent Jakli family and used these vassal rulers for their political and military aims and tampering their sovereignty.
