The Interpretation of Folk Medicine Methods

The folk medicine is a part of the pre-modern knowledge and beliefs that deals with individual and social health, which attributes the healing of diseases to supernatural and superhuman powers and for treatment utilize the plants, objects and spells. Nowadays, in spite of the rapid progress in medical science, not only the importance of the folk medicine have not decreased among the people, but also the general tendency towards the folk medicine increases among various classes of the society. This research has been done in the southern cities of West Azerbaijan (Including Bokan, Mahabad and Piranshahr). Qualitative techniques such as in-depth interviews with people have been applied to investigate the people's tendency to folk healers and their understanding of these practices. The results show the folk medicine is popular among segments of the population.
