The Role of Personality and Defense Mechanisms in Predicting Marital Adjustment of Couples with Fertility Problems

This study examined the role of personality traits and defense mechanisms in predicting marital couples with infertility problem.
This research is descriptive and correlational. The population consisted of all infertile couples in spring 2015 medical offices gynecologist referred Boukan city, among them 50 couples (100 people) through convenience sampling method, were selected. Data through NEO Personality Inventory, defense mechanisms were collected. To analyze the collected data the marital adjustment test, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression were used by software SPSS-20.
The findings show that personality traits ten percent and the defense mechanisms 30 percent determine the marital adjustment variance. the significance level of p So psychologists can consider the role of personality traits and defense mechanisms as important features to note that predict marital adjustment in infertile couples.
